QRJ really got tenderized in that fight. It’s a wonder he didn’t retire after that. I don’t particularly care for him but that’s painful to watch. Shogun’s training partner Wanderlei Silva put a major ass whoopin on Rampage not once but twice too.
Majority says Shogun but i think people are starting to realize Forrest could do better in this fight in reality than on paper. You hear all the time evrywhere that styles make fights and thats because its true. Ive been impressed by Rua and he’s deff agressive and yeah its not crazy to think Rua will KO Forrest in Rd 1. But ive thought ever since this became the possible match-up that its a good one and that forrest will fair quite well against Rua. Forrest is not terrified of Rua’s abilities he wanted this fight and asked for it. That tells me he’s going in there with intention. Maybe im wrong but i think your probably going to do better in the fights you pick other than just getting matched-up with whoever. I like Rua and i like Griffin so its cool no matter who wins. Rua deff has an ability edge on Griffin but Forrest has more heart than most. Before evry match-up like this theres always gonna be a back and forth tirade. But they are both skilled fighters and both know what there doing. Forrest has been reckless but every fight he has he looks cleaner and cleaner. His loss by Ko doesnt mean anything to me almost everyone gets KO’ed at some point alot more than others but thats the name of the game. forrest isnt a pushover and Rua wont walk right thru him. Now Rua might win of course but i think its gonna be a battle.
in my humble opinion, shogun will have his hands full…he’ll have a difficult time catching forrest..with the KO lost of forrest, it made him far more a smarter fighter..picking his shots..no more wreckless abandon punches…we have here a fight ladies and gents…
First of all, major props to the person who made this video.

The video is creative, fun, and gets its point across. That Shogun is one bad mother-shut-yo’-mouth!
dont everyone get so ahead of yourselfs with Shogun, yes he is a great fighter but how many of his fights has he won using headstomps and soccer kicks, and how many of his other fights has he damaged his opponents with stomps and then went on to win another way,he has to adapt to alot of new things, the rules the cage the crowd,I honestly think you guys who think he is just gonna blitz through the LH division are in for a suprise.
Shogun relys on those Pride rules so much that a huge part of his game is now missing,I wouldnt be suprised if he never regains his form and disapoints alot of people,I think his style makes him a great KO highlight for Chuck Liddell if they ever fight,Chuck would destroy him.
He should beat Forrest but dont be suprised if we have a upset.
Shogun is one tuff dude. A very strong chin but how will he cope with the different rules (no knees to the head on the ground, no stomping, no kicks to the head period when a guy is on the mat). Either way I think many guys in the LH division will have problems with this guy but then again any one can get a lucky punch.
I understand that what we were seeing is action filled clips, but Shogun (just like Wandy) really pushes the action. Lately in the UFC, it seems a lot of fighters have become counter-fighters.
Has Forrest ever faced a Muay Thai expert? Are we going to see another Anderson Silva/Rich Franklin? Seriously, don’t underestimate the Muay Thai clinch and knee combo… Forrest better have an answer, or he’s in trouble, because I can guarantee Shogun is ready for all of Forrest’s weapons… heart and mediocre stand-up.

I like Shogun as much as the next guy and I like PRIDE as much as the next (at times, more than the UFC). However, many a PRIDE win for Shogun & others began with a well placed foot-stomp or soccer kick. It’s something to really consider when comparing the 2 organizations. Soccer kicks & foot stomps = elbows. We’ll see how it plays out soon.
I don’t think anyone can make a plausible case for a Griffin victory. He only has a puncher’s chance and that is all. Shogun has amazing standup and an awesome ground game. Just look at how he handled both Little Nog and Arona on the ground. You can say what you want about who has more heart, which is the one attribute that they pretty much all have. Anyone who says either guy has more heart is just being biased.
Shogun by TKO. And for all of the people that point out that he cant head stomp, just look at his last fight against Overeem, in which he wasnt allowed to use them. He knocked him out anyway.
shogun is a killer i hope that griffin will not get hurt so bad. this man will clean the UFC LH division.

Perfectly stated. I am so glad that there are some ppl here who can keep it real…Just because a fighter is popular and well loved by fans does not change his present skill level. Although Forrest demonstrated significant improvement in his last fight, he is still being tossed to the wolves…At best, Forrest can make it a close fight (like the Tito fight) and prove once more that he is a future threat to the title…
He’s possibly the most aggressive fighter out there. Shogun is spectacular to watch, he’s beaten a who’s who really. Only needs Chuck and Wandy (Wandy won’t happen teammates). Maybe Hendo if he beats ‘Page.

I agree, forrest is very outmatched in this fight. If stephan bonner busted his face open… what will shogun do? All forest can hope for is “a lucky punch”. Forrest will be overwhelmed just like any other fighter that shogun has fought.
Shogun is an animal, very aggressive and seems to place hiself in great positions to win every match he is in. It will be a interesting fight though with him not being able to use his soccer kicks and stomps. And will see if Forrest is able to take him down how he will handle elbows. I wont be suprised if Forrest pulls off what would be considered an upset in this fight, simpley because of the difference’s in the organizations rules. Plus Forrest did look alot smarter and relaxed in the ring in his last fight, and with RC helpin him train for this fight i think Forrest can actually pull it out… Not matter what im expecting a great war for this match up !!!!
P.S. Cant wait for GSP to put Koscheck’s sorry Ass into Retirement !!!!!!!
i love the way shogun fights, but i could see forrest staying away from him, but the aggressiveness of forrest doesnt match up well against another aggressive fighter like shogun. I disagree with ppl who say chuck is a bad matchup for shogun just bc chuck hasnt fought anybody like shogun. Shogun really utilizes the clinch well and that is how he would beat chuck. The only bad matchup for shogun is machida bc machida is a more well-rounded counter puncher than chuck.
I still say Forrest will Fair good against Rua. Im sure Griffin is well aware of Shogun’s arsenal. Everyone is acting like forrest doesnt have a clue. His striking has improved after every fight. And he trains in BJJ so he wont be lost if it goes to the ground and yes i know Rua is a black belt in BJJ. But you see blue belts, brown belts in BJJ submit black belts all the time. Muay Thai clinch and knees im sure he has accounted for that if he hasnt they will deff be a factor and Rua will prob use them. Im not saying Forrest is gonna win im just saying its gonna be a battle. And yeah every fighter has heart like Forrest depending on what your definition of heart is. Point is everyone right now is saying Rua is gonna destroy Griffin. And i dont think he will and thats a down to the ground realistic opinion. While Shoguns fights have impressed me i just think Forrest is a good match-up in style. On paper my brain says the same thing as everyone else that Griffin is gonna get KO’ED early. But by watching both guys fights and styles i just think its gonna be a great battle. I could be wrong and i’ll be eating crow but i guess we will see. There both professionals both Skilled fighters so it shouldnt be unimaginable that Forrest might hold his own in this fight. And thats being realistic. Being biased is saying Rua is gonna kill Forrest so on and so forth. And like them both so its a win win situation for me no matter who wins i get to see a great match-up and hopefully a great fight.
This fight can’t go much longer than 1 or 2 rounds with the style match up.
I think Griffin fights a defensive fight and counter punches Rua. Griffin trains his ass off and will be ready for the clinch unlike franklin.
Realize that Griffin is a bigger dude. He can walk around at 225 before he cuts. Rua never had to do such things, he is just an excellent fighter. Strength edge goes to forrest and he will counter punch and technically beat Rua.
I like this match up a lot, when will they confirm?

..I think what we have here is an execution. RIP Forrest.
I think that Shogun’s biggest weapons in a fight are his knees. People don’t realized that if Forrest takes Shogun down then he won’t need to be concerned about his muay thai. Of course, Shogun has a black belt in BJJ. To prevent himself from being submitted, Forrest can pin Shogun against the cage and drop elbows from Shogun’s guard, Tito Ortiz style. If Forrest is relentless enough, I think that he can deal enough damage for a stoppage or to get the edge on the judges’ scorecards.
All it would take is a solid gameplan for Forrest to win. And considering that he is training with Randy Couture, you can bet that he’s gonna have one.
Shogun should win this, but I wouldnt count Forrest out so quickly.
Sorry bud this time around I think your off. I dont see Forrest making it out of First round. He’s going to land of getting into a fight similar to the jardine showdown. There going to bang and he will lose the better exchanges
I dont see Forrest making it out of First round. He’s going to land of getting into a fight similar to the jardine showdown. There going to bang and he will lose the better exchanges
People don’t realize
A) Forrest can take serious punishment
B) Shogun is not unbeatable
C) Forrest will come out with a better gameplan than usual
D) Because it is his octagon debut, Shogun probably won’t be on the top of his game.
Everyone thinks that Forrest is still the brawler who outfought Stephan Bonnar in the Ultimate Fighter 1 Finale. If you watch his last fight with Bonnar, you will see how much his striking has improved. If you watch his fight with Ortiz, you will see how good his cardio is and how much punishment he can take. And finally, if you watch his fight with Jardine, you’ll notice that he wasn’t doing bad until Jardine rocked him with an uppercut.
If I had to predict the outcome of this fight, I would say that it will go the distance and there will be a split decision winner.
Well I think Shogun will win but that’s just my 2 cents. However one of the things Forrest has going for him in this matchup is his size. Someone said he cuts from like 225. I think maybe more. I heard he had difficulty making weight against Ramirez. Tito cuts from like 220 a week from weighin I believe. Griffin is a monster and he’s 6″3″ I think.
I think the biggest 205ers are probably Overeem, Griffin, Ortiz and Lil Nog. Not actually sure about Rogerio but he looked colossal against Shogun.
hm.. He kicked Rampage’s ass pretty good and it says a lot about the level he’s at. However, I’m very curious to see how he’ll adapt to different rules in UFC, where the kicking, kneeing, or even stomping on the head of a grounded opponent is not allowed. Yet, Shogun has shown that he can slugs it out with his fists as well. So, I’ll go with Shogun for this one. Griffin can take a lot of punishments, but Keith “Dean of Mean” Jardine caught him with a KO early in first round. Griffin also lost to Ortiz. And Ortiz couldn’t even fight against Chuck Liddell, who got KO’d by Rampage.
The thing is the Pride rules favoured fighters with that real animal killer instinct and good standup. The octagon is huge whereas you can cut the corner and pin in your opponent in the ring. Kicks to grounded opponents allowed the standup fighter to finish ‘em quickly.
I mean if stomps and headkicks were allowed then AA would have mangled Werdum in the first round. The UFC rules favour all these american fighters are wrestlers l’n'p artists. The rules favour wrestlers to heavily and it makes for boring fights.
If the Sherk Franca fight was pride rules Franca may well have finished him with head kicks and stomps.
I have just never seen Forrest with Knock out power. But I can see him frusterating Rua.
That’s right! His only (T)KO in the UFC is against none other than Elvis Sinosic. Forrest is not a knock out puncher.
Unless Forrest can pull off a ‘Matt Serra’ and shock the world, he will find himself wounded very badly, and spending a long time on the sidelines healing before the athtletic commission allows him back into the octagon.
it is LUDACRIS that this mortal (forrest) even attempt to enter the REALM of MAURICIO “SHOGUN” RUA. this will be the first FATALITY in the history of MMA my prayers are with the family of forrest griffin. hahaha!
i hope it at least lasts 4 minutes so that the U.S. audience can see how bad ass Mr. Shogun is.

I like this match up a lot, when will they confirm?

Griffin by TKO in the second.
This fight can’t go much longer than 1 or 2 rounds with the style match up.

I dig it, like your analysis, of how Forrest will fight, I have just never seen Forrest with Knock out power. But I can see him frusterating Rua.
I agree with every thing you said Thor, Rua is awesome ,but Forest’s stile matches up good with him. Everyone who thinks Forest will get crushed is in for a big surprise.
whoever wins i just hope it is a entertaining fight and i think it will be, if you look at the amazing (entertaining) fights of both.
i hope : shogun tko late rd2 or early rd3
i think: shogun within 2:00 of first round TKO anyway he wants it

UFC 55 Fury Griffin KO’D Sinosic with some nice punches.
Shogun is perhaps my second favourite fighter (behind GSP) but I hope Forrest upsets him.
I don’t know how that works, but, you know…
WAR FORREST.

Thanks gord
Ive seen alot of your posts and comments a you seem very Knowledgeable and i agree with alot of your opinions.
shogun wont be able to use his stomp in the octagon and thats one of his main assits but still i see a shogun win round 2 tko.
Thanks for posting my video. I appreciate it.
im sorry forrest
I think this is a match of up an ‘A’ fighter vs a ‘B’ fighter. Shogun by stoppage due to strikes in rd 1.
in my humble opinion, shogun will have his hands full…he’ll have a difficult time catching forrest..with the KO lost of forrest, it made him far more a smarter fighter..picking his shots..no more wreckless abandon punches…we have here a fight ladies and gents…
..I think what we have here is an execution.

When I say more than 225 I mean 10 weeks out from fight time.
R.I.P. Pride.

I see this fight unfolding like the Anderson Silva vs Chris Leben fight..SHOGUN will drop Forrest in the 1st round.
Great video. Overeem is a monster.
forest griffin will win in the 3rd round by TKO..hes gonna shock the world
it is LUDACRIS that this mortal (forrest) even attempt to enter the REALM of MAURICIO “SHOGUN” RUA. this will be the first FATALITY in the history of MMA my prayers are with the family of forrest griffin. hahaha!
