Thanks for the PRIDE perspective. I personally don't care too much about the intros and normally like to see instant action. But i'd definitely be curious to go behind-the-scenes.

Anyone know of any links to behind the scenes of crocop, cyborg, and others?

Someone posted it a couple of weeks ago on another site and people got all sentimental. It shows partly an aspect of PRIDE that many people loved: every fighter had his own path and story within PRIDE and fans had alot more insight into whats going on behind the scenes. You saw footage like this from former fights, you saw the fighters hanging out backstage, fighters meeting up with fans around the arena, footage from their life within the hotels and some pranks they pulled.

Somehow I never got such a feeling in the UFC. Its always 1-2 scenes of the main event fighters about their final preparation, then the fight, a silly interview with Joe Rogan after the decision and inbetween an hour of commercials. Pride had that whole "entrance" thing worked out, fans really thought of the fighters as gladiators (the UFC equivalent is the stupid intro scene with a homoerotic bodybuilder re-enacting a scene from the Gladiator movie with Russell Crowe).

Yes, this comment is biased, not objective, I am a PRIDE nuthugger, but maybe there are a few others of us here as well and share the same sentiments.
I agree that the Pride atmosphere was a lot better than the UFC, fans, intros, etc.
Pride had the better production by far.... How about those opening ceramonies? Bushido production was always good... Ill never forget when Sakuraba was walking to the ring at critical countdown 2005.... The sun rose on the arena dome... Great production.

From this aspect UFC not even close to Pride

There is nothing wrong with being a "nuthugger". I've been called one on this site before. I agree that Pride had a few elements to its production that far outshine their UFC equivalents, but the UFC has certain features that are better.

With Pride, it seemed to be more about the fighters, not the league. The only element of this I found annoying were the entrances. They were too long most of the time. I did like the complete warrior element, which is hard to describe, that they created as a backdrop. Also, because it was in Japan, where martial arts has a long history, the fans "got it" more than they do here. Top all that off with the tournaments.

Having said that, the UFC has a good thing going with TUF, but it would def be better if they upped the caliber of fighter. I prefer the cage to the ring, mostly because its annoying when they have to move the fighters away from the ropes.

I left a lot out, because I dont want to type forever, but I think the best thing would be for both the UFC and Pride to adopt the more preferable elements from each.
