Amp’d mobile had a great slogan:

“More mobile than you’re used to”

Consider the irony in this definition of mobile: Capable of moving or changing quickly from one state or condition to another.

Today your phone might work. Tomorrow it might not.

Amp’d mobile will be going off the hook (permanently) by the end of the month, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Amp’d filed for bankruptcy on June 1 citing unpaid bills - to the tune of 80,000 (out of 160,000) customers who decided billing was optional.

No telling if The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) finalists from seasons past were included. As many of you will remember one of the going away gifts was a free Amp’d mobile phone and service for life.

Service for life is great, assuming you have the life span of a fruit fly. I hear each finalist for season six receives a free Atari Jaguar and a subscription to GRIT.

Also included in the bankruptcy filing was Amp’d mobile’s debt to Verizon for permission to operate on the cable operator’s network.

Nothing like a cool $50 million in the red to make investors jittery.

And here I felt bad owing The Star Ledger nine bucks for Sunday delivery.

From what I understand the UFC was beaming live events to Amp’d handheld devices - including undercard matches.

Now the wireless sponsor is defunct and no doubt many UFC fans are stuck with a phone they can’t use.

Maybe Zuffa can make reparations for pimping a useless product by beaming those undercard matches to the television sets of its pay-per-view faithful.

Where they should have been in the first place.

HALF of their customers didn’t pay their bills?! That’s absolutely insane.

They featured scatter-brained idiots in their commercials and then half their customers don’t pay up. Before they fold up I hope they at least further trash the trashed credit ratings of these 80K freeloaders.

Believe it or not, Im pretty sure Ampd was a sponsor of Spike (MTV Networks…which Ampd owes a LOT of money too) and not the a direct sponsor of the UFC.

Btw, I relayed this info atleast a month ago =p

I saw this one coming from a mile away… millions of dollars in marketing yet I’ve never known ONE person who uses Amp’d. It’s only time in my opinion before the same thing happens with Xyience. I have no inside information, but just based on the amount they spend on marketing and the fact that again, I don’t know anyone who uses the product or drinks the energy drinks - seems they headed down a similar path.

I stupidly cancelled my Cingular plan to get Ampd. They never really sent me a bill. I’ve only had it a few months and never really new how the Ampd live worked. The phone is nice and I get great service, but the customer service, and lack of information sucks. Back to Cingular for me. Their slogan was really cool though.

At least they had some funny commercials. Well that one with the asian guy singing in the bathroom was good.

Luppers, you want a medal or a chest to pin it on? Who cares if you reported it a month ago. Create a website as good as this one and report your little heart away. Glory hound.

Relax guys. I understood where it was coming from, Luppers. And there’s no need to go after people. It’s stupid. I can’t stress that enough.

The highlight of Punk’d Mobile’s existence was the poll when they asked if BJ Penn was right in getting rid of Andy Wang- something like that- and the response was an underwhelming 0% for, 0% against.
