Season six of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) will air on Wednesdays, not Thursdays as previous seasons have, according to representatives for SpikeTV and reported on MMAWeekly.com.

TUF 6 will debut on September 19 at 11 p.m. on the tails of UFC Fight Night 11 from The Palms Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

No official reason was given for the change, but this is no doubt a joyous occasion for fans of my TUF report (all two of them) as they will be treated to my weekly ramblings one day earlier.

Rumored contestants for the show to date, according to MMAWeekly.com, include:

  • Ben Saunders
  • Billy Miles
  • Blake Bowman
  • Joe Scarola
  • Jon Koppenhaver
  • Mac Danzig
  • Matt Arroyo
  • Paul Georgieff
  • Richie Hightower

The latest edition of the reality series, of course, also features current 170-pound champion Matt Serra and former titleholder Matt Hughes as opposing coaches.

Fireworks are expected not only from the 16 welterweight contestants, but also from the coaches themselves. Both have longstanding grudges that pre-date Serra’s participation on TUF 4.

During that show, “The Terror” made it abundantly clear to a nationwide audience that the two are not bosom buddies.

Now, the fighters get to finally settle their feud on December 29 on a yet-to-be-named pay-per-view (PPV) card in Las Vegas.

Matt Hughes is Mormon? I don’t think so, but I could be wrong. I can’t find anything to back this up. “Latter-day Saint” refers to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of which I am a member, otherwise known as the “Mormon church.” Interesting…I kind of hope he’s not because he’s said some things that characterize him as a bit of a hick and a racist, neither of which I want anything to do with…although I have some redneck roots. hey mania, i normally agree with most of the stuff you say, and i think matt hughes acts like a jerk sometimes but i dont think its right to say he hates everyone whos not from bettendorf or a mormon. it seems to me at least that matt serra is the one who dislikes hughes and hughes really doesnt seem to care.

matt serras 15 minutes (6 weeks) of fame will expire with a brutal T.K.O. anyway matt hughes wants it.

Thursday night at 10PM EST is the tail end of prime time on television’s power line-up night. So moving to Wednesday night should hopefully boost ratings since it won’t be up against NBC’s ER and whatever else is on.

Lets be honest guys…. Thirsty Thursday a lot of the target male group this show aims for goes out drinking. So just by moving it to Wed they are gonna gain ratings.

The move to wednesday nights is great. I personally love watching the shows, and having it earlier in the week is awesome. I enjoyed watching the first two seasons when they were on mondays or tuesdays I think it was. Matt Hughes certainly doesnt come of like the typical jerk off from Long Island that MattS Serra is making himself to be. Is Serra trying to pump up the fight or is he really just a ball bag ? Like why call someone an A-hole when you basically know nothing about him. Serra might have some prejudices regarding athletes or as he calls them “jocks”.

Serra has like a built up rage, probably from getting stuffed in to freshmen lockers in high school. This will not help his cause when Hughes is slamming him to the mat.

No Matts not Mormon just look at his website it says which faith he belongs to there. Hughes is going to be champ again, mark my words he wins be unanimous decision, and he’s not half as bad a guy as most imply.

Everyone forgets that Serra has a black belt in BJJ, and Hughes likes to fight on the ground. He is more likely to win this fight than he was to beat GSP. “Styles make fights” and this is a good style matchup for Serra in my opinion. Hughes has freakish strength though and is an awesome wrestler, so I still favor Hughes in this fight.

Hughes dislikes Serra as well. He mentioned in one of the events before GSP vs Serra that he would like Serra to win so that he can beat the crap out of Serra. Probably because of Serra talking crap during the TUF show.

I’d love to see Serra win by submission early in the first round. More than likely its gonna be Hughes by TKO/Strikes late in the first round though.

Mania, this little throwaway statement is beneath you. If anything, fundamentalist Christians tend to think Mormons are heretical. If someone doesn’t like Hughes, then that’s fine; but at least make sure that your disses make sense.

Like hearing “hamma fist Shoney, we’ve been here before” wasn’t enough in the come back show, now we have to hear the over rated unit be coach for a whole season. Great, just fucking great. I can’t stand Hughes either, but I definitely know he’s going give Serra a beating. And to the comment Dan posted…Ummm read the article again, because your making an ass out of yourself. It’s called sarcasm. I think the only hardcore bible beaters in the UFC were in Kimo’s camp.

Let’s lay off the religion.

Jesse wrote it in a tongue-and-cheek tone, but it has clearly ruffled a few feathers.

I took out the reference — I want this to be about TUF 6, not religion.

Apologies if folks took it the wrong way.

For the record the BJJ skills that Matt Serra may possess do not come in to play during this fight because he will have the strongest fighter he has ever fought laying on top of him wearing him down with hammer fists and elbows. The only chance he has in pullin off a submission will be in the first half of the 1st round when Hughes isnt sweating too badly.

In all of Matt Hughes’ fights, he sweats profusely thus making it extremely unlikely that a solid submission could be implemented. This will be a tough gritty fight from the get go and no cute submissions will effectively be applied.

Matt Hughes still has a ton of fight left in him, he sticks to the basics and doesnt try and get too cute with his boxing skills (or lack thereof) the fight is a wrap !!!

I concur. The last TUF was half people who belonged and half people who don’t belong. We had to wait until the second half of the season to see the quality fights. If they would have taken the top half of the show and brought in another weight class. We could have had quality fights from beginning to end.

How can you be tired of it? They’ve only done one show out of five with one weight class. And while I agree with the assessment that only half the fighters from TUF 5 actually belonged there, the problem was with the selection committee choosing fighters based as much on personality as talent. Lobstah was an entertaining guy, but he had no business being in the ring against real fighters. If they look for the best 16 WWs they can find instead of making sure they have a few no-talent instigators in the mix just for ratings, then the show will be fine.

Kudos to Sam “scrapes” Mahde on his cleverness in developing his own nick name. Your post has a more personal touch to it Sam LMAO !!!

In regards to some LNP (lay and pray) nonsense shots, wrestling is an aspect of MMA, when a fighter “LAYS” as you put it, he is trying to gain an advantage in position thus he can employ a nice elbow or hammer fist. Get used to the fact that this sport is not boxing and you will not see guys swinging for the fences each minute.

Over 85% of fights go to the ground, what did you think was going to occur, Gracie JJ which is dead ?

TUF 6 should be good. I like to see how different fighters develop and mature. I know someone mentioned the bordome of single weight class per season. It would be hard to make a good show with more than one.
The coach grude thing is hype for the show, as much as they may dislike each other, they are professionals.

Like with teh GSP fight, anyone that thinks Hughes is the predetermined winner is going to be in for a rude awakening.

Matt Serra is no joke, Hughes will be lucky to see a decission let along anything close to a KO or submission.

It should be a great show..and a better finale, both Matts are skilled and displined fighters.
Serra in 2nd by submission - if I had to make a prediction
