Tito Ortiz vs. Rashad Evans (205-pound limit)
Here we go! It’s Mania and I’m siked for this fight. Rashad is coming out. He looks pumped and ready. Ortiz makes his way to the ring to a chorus of boos, traditional Mexican-American flag in tow. Let’s get down to bit-ness.
I’m so curious about this fight. For the first time in along time, right or wrong, I have zero idea who is going to come away victorious.
Round one: Tito comes out with a head kick, shoots and takes Rashad down. Rashad is stuffed up against the fence, working for position, but Rashad stands up. The two exchange blows, but Tito manages to get him up against the fence again. Big John breaks it up and washes out the mouthpiece of Rashad. Middle of the round is tentative — both fighters just feeling each other out. Tito goes for the takedown, Rashad stuffs it but is stuffed up against the cage. Rashad spins and reverses, now he has Tito up against the fence. Tito is cut under his right eye. Rashad counters with some nice takedown defense and the two head into the corners standing. I’ll give round one to Tito.
Round two: Round two and both fighters are swinging but not much is happening. Evans goes for a takedown but Tito sprawls and the two are back up trading. Tito goes for the clinch and the two are working for position — nice elbow by Ortiz. Rashad goes for a single leg takedown but Ortiz resists. Rashad is bouncing but not doing much now in the stand up. Tito gets a SLOW takedown and mushes Rashad up against the fence — Ortiz eventually gets top position. Ortiz isn’t doing any real damages, Rashad reverses and takes Tito down. Tito gets a point taken aways for grabbing the fence, but he’s unphased, he nearly submits Rashad with a TIGHT guillotine. Rashad is saved by the bell.
Round three: Two exchange to open up the round, Rashad isn’t doing much and gets pushed up against the fence. Evans works his way up and delivers some knees in the clinch. Tito is pushing the pace, but Rashad isn’t doing much. Tito looks a little winded, but Rashad isn’t doing much to captilalize. Rashad smells blood and is throwing haymakers to try and finish the fight — not happening. Rashad gets a BIG takedown in the waning seconds of the fight and drops some SERIOUS elbows. Bell rings. Announcers, including Couture, are calling for a draw.
Result: Tito Ortiz and Rashad Evans fight to a DRAW!
-end-

Round two: The round begins and Diego lands some solid shots and the two remain on the feet for most of the round. Lots of good exchanges, both fighters are doing well and it is a fairly even exchange throughout. Diego starts to get the better of Gurgel later in the round, Gurgel ties him up and takes Diego down. Diego gets up and continues to get the better of the stand up toward the end of the round. Solid action.
Round three: This round, again, begins with some stand up, which is not what most expected with two Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialists. Diego lands a low blow and the two touch gloves. The fight goes to the ground and Gurgel lands in Diego’s guard, raining down punches. The round ends with a fairly even stand up. Gurgel’s face looks like chopped meat — mouses under both eyes. Bocek is not defending himself and the referee steps in with five seconds remaining in round one and stops the fight via technical knockout (strikes).
Result: Frank Edgar defeats Mark Bocek via technical knockout (strikes) in round one

Wonder how the title fights feel being down played by the Tito/Rashad fight
This event is going to be awesome….I cant wait
Wonder how the title fights feel being down played by the Tito/Rashad fight
Marquartd and Franca must be pissed, I know that if i was on a 6 fight win streak like nate and getting my first fight for the title against anderson siva who is in the top 185 pounder in the ufc and possibly in the world or hermes who is on a 8 fight win streak and being 5-0 inside the octagon he was been waiting for this for ages, both guys are having their first ufc title fights
and their fights are being overshadowed by ortiz vs evans whether dana hates tito or not he is completely overpromoting him.
Pretty sure the first time I saw the fighters listed for the event it had Tito/Rashad on top… I almost fell out of my chair.
Just think they are doing Silva and Sherk wrong here
Wooo… looked at UFC.com now and they have the fights in this order
Silva vs. Marquardt
Florian vs. Robinson
Tito vs. Rashad
Sherk vs. Franca
wow…
Why isn’t there a “Tito by Submission” or a “Rashad by Submission” on the Poll??? What, it could happen. It’s been a big year for surprises in the UFC.
I’ve been letting my wife know for about 3 weeks now. “Don’t plan anything for Saturday. It’s going to be the best UFC EVER!!” I’m so pumped.
I think that Ortiz/Evans as the “Headliner” bout is a little disrespectful to the two title holders, but c’mon, this event is going to have some fantastic fights.
het have u guys ever heard of Tito Ortiz? he’s really good ….later rashad.
Y isnt there nogiera vs herring on the fight card i mean its the debut of one of the greatest heavyweights in the world coming to ufc shouldnt they be proud of it?
anyways i think nogiera will win hands down FOR THE THIRD TIME!!!!!!!!!!!

Deff should be a Tito by submission he’s well versed in BJJ but we just never get to see it. It would be cool. Rashad is also learning BJJ now.
Ortiz vs Evans is a fan grabber but the Title fights are the catsass. Best line-up in a long time. But there are so many awesome match-ups that could be now with the UFC and Pride guys coming over. The cards should just get better right lol.
cant wait for tonight!!!!!!
its business, more people know ortiz than any of those guys, few of the average fans have a clue who sherk and silva are, much less franca or marquardt. ortiz vs lidell was a huge fight in terms of pay day, and i think white hopes to have some of these fighters, silva and sherk , or the potential winners catch some of these viewers and make them more popular. especially nog, he wants to showcase him against a chump to people will start to like him, kind of like what they did with cro cop… which kind of worked until he got knocked out, i had random people telling me cro cop was the best fighter ever.
i mean it sucks, but its good business.

The only reason I can see them doing this is to break up 2 potentially 5 round fights.
Then again, it is the website, not the offical fight card, we’ll see how it goes.
I was guessing that the Ortiz/Evans fight would proceed the Sherk/Franca fight and preceed the Silva/Marquardt fight.

They are, but thats business. UFC only thinks in dollar terms,(look at thier fighter payroll) Tito has been apart of every top grossing UFC event. Tito/Shamrock, Tito/Liddell, I mean Spike TV set a record they will never break when over 3 million people watched the final Tito/Ken fight.
Tito’s face has the best chance of making the most money.
I think that this fight card is going to be one of the best ever. The championship fights should get all the promotion because not only are the belts being defended, but the fighters that are fighting is the best in the world in there division. These 2 fights alone are worth the admission.
Anderson Silva vs. Nate Marquardt
Sean Sherk vs. Hermes Franka
Then you got BIG NOG fighting Heath.Shiiiiiiiittttt,Rashad Evans “KTFO” Tito is going to be icing on the cake.
The lightwieghts and undercard fights are going to be awesome.
STACKED LIKE A MUTHERFUKER!!
whens fedor going to come destroy everybody? and why wasnt he the first one over here to represent the pride fighters?.hes the heavy weight champ. i love nogeira, but fedor put the smash on him bad
Tito’s face has the best chance of making the most money…….yet Dana refers to him as an ugly monkey/gorilla on billboards all over Las Vegas…Dana must love something about Tito and that is the $$$$$$$$ he brings in.

Nogueira is still the #2 fighter and an exciting one to watch. Fedor will come when the time is right and when it’s good for him.
i hope you all have fun watching the fights tonight i have to attend my 10 year hs reunion the same time as the fight
what time does this card start tonight? 8:30-8:45?
Is Kenflo on the main card tonight or no?
I have heard he is opening the show, and I have heard he is the final pre-lim match.
Is Kenflo on the main card tonight or no?

Swing bout. We’ll see it if the others finish up quick.
Edgar and Bocek is up now. Jersey-boy Edgar is coming out to Sopranos theme song. Gotta love that.

so that practically means we are going to have to wait till the DVD comes out, cause I can see Herring/Big Nog going into round 2, Sherk/Franca going to a decision, Tito going to decision and Silva/nate going 4 rounds.
I hope Alvin takes KenFlo’s arm with him, cause I bet alot of him.
1 for 1 baby, called the round and the way it ends, Frank Edgar is NO JOKE.
Too bad I placed money on all the underdogs tonight.
edgar won in frist rd tko
I’m doing commentary on the prelim bouts above. Just an fyi. Lytle and Gilliam up next.
I’m doing commentary on the prelim bouts above. Just an fyi. Lytle and Gilliam up next.
Mania, I hope we can turn the tide around on MMAPlayground right now not starting off so hot with the Edgar pick, lets hope you can go 8-1 and I can go 9-0 we need to show everyone how smart this site is.
Can someone explain for my buddy what a swing bout is.
Wow Lytle is nuts.
What round did Lytle finish off Gilliam?
oh yeah sorry i keep re posting but i thought this should be an article
–Two new matches confirmed today by UFC for upcoming shows are Marcus Aurelio vs. Clay Guida on 8/25 in Las Vegas, and Diego Sanchez vs. Jon Fitch on 9/22 in Anaheim. Both matches look great, at least on paper. So Sanchez vs. B.J. Penn fell through.
lytle wins! finally
Two new matches confirmed today by UFC
Who from the UFC CONFIRMED this, how, when and where?
Anyone guess that? Lytle winning by Submission?
=/
I had him winning round 1 KO but def not by submission.
We going to round 3 with Jorge? I really hope he wins my Cincinnati Brother needs to pull off this victory.
Wonder how the title fights feel being down played by the Tito/Rashad fight
The master dana white just gets it…Its not about the title all the time its about the match up! That is one of the reasons boxing is being distroyed. We watch fights for the action and the “what if factor” the action that the fighter is know for, not necessarily the “Title”. Tito for instance is a big draw(no title)…But the master dana white gets it Tito big draw Rashad no losses and constant improvement with action packed fights….The action is why we watch. I hope the title holders get that………….Tim sylvia sure should…Ask Randy..
Anthony
Gurgel is booed during the post-fight interview.
any chance bonnar could lose this?
Jorge pulls off the victory congrats Jorge!!!
Cincinnati Boy wins again.
Anyone know how his knee held up?
A guy I know gets trained by Jorge and he said Jorge looked better than he ever has.
Hey everyone!! Just checking results to grade the bets we took!! That’s right, bet on your favorite fighter @ betED.com US customers are welcome, instant money depositing by echeck!!! try it for a few bucks you can even parlay fighters!!!
Cheers
Gurgel is booed during the post-fight interview.
Why?
Bonnar wins by RNC
Bonnar refused to touch gloves in the beginning, somebody must of have had horse roids in them.
Bonnar at -450 was a lock. He could have been -1000 and it was good money. Nickels was way out of his class here.

Gurgel is booed during the post-fight interview.
Fans thought Diego won the fight.
Bonnar at -450 was a lock. He could have been -1000 and it was good money. Nickels was way out of his class here.
We had him -650
Any one know Randy Couture’s picks
Man Herring almost had it in the 1st round. bad move for letting him back up.

dude they broke that the last fight night the sport isnt going to stop growing for years. expect new records for long time.
I think Sherk wins by decision, what do the rest of you think?
Dana White needs to stop looking at the WWE for ideas and promote all the UFC fighters. The fans make the UFC what it is not Dana, we believed in the sport and supported the fighters, ALL of them. Start treating your champions with respect Dana because you can be replaced too!
Franca by KO. thats my pick anyways
Franca by KO. thats my pick anyways
You were almost right with the knee by franca that rocked shark
Franca can do it with one punch. Sean spends too much time cutting weight so he may try to end it quick.
someone please give me a quick round by round in the rashad fight. i am stuck in a hotel in ‘bama and can’t get nothing here except dial-up on my pc…
Silva all the way….i hope so anyway he showed great poise against Franklin and….I got money on it
im impressed by sherk’s chin, he has taken two hard knees to the face and is still dominating
First of all fedor hasant come because he dosent want to and second the tito is gona kill in the fight did u see rashad againstsalmon he sucked salmon couldent beat my grandma and he wants to fight tito hes gona get killed
well, i was ALMOST right
Sherk did an awesome job of dominating the ground game.
ok tito vs rashad next, i think Ortiz wins by TKO
someone please give me a quick round by round in the rashad fight. i am stuck in a hotel in ‘bama and can’t get nothing here except dial-up on my pc…
Rashad and Tito are up next. Relax. We got it.
just keep refreshing the page and looking at the top under the current fight, they do a good job keeping it updated round by round. Go Silva
!!
sherk is such a boring fighter
and think it was bull shit that the ref did not stop the fight in 1st rd of the nog fight herring defintly knocked his ass out

I had forgotten about that, i just looked and i have to agree, they do a good job
word to the mutha! i like tito, but rashad got a good chin…
I didn’t touch this fight but I would say Rashad, just purely for the odds and his record, Ortiz has more than a chance.
I just found out about this website today it’s a great chance for people that aren’t getting the fight to be updated on it instead of losing sleep about wondering who won. I think tito might be more experianced than rashad and maybe evans is a little intimidated too.
What’s taking so long? Have they started yet?
Man, as far as I see it, this fight goes to decision and tito takes the win.
damn…this dial up is slow as hell! it’s been forever since i had to deal with this. round 3???
what’s goin’ up???
TITO ORTIZ IS HECRCLUES…..RASHAD , THE STREET HOME RECIAPIAN WILL TAKE HIS LESSON TONIGHT
Hey I don’t know if anyone else lives in the midwest but is this ppv supposed to be like 5hrs long cuz here it says 8:30-3:00am is that right or is my cable box messed up?
it was a draw for ortiz and evans and silva fights next, this page is loading very slow
Silva beat Nate in round 1 Woot!!!!!!
wow…humn…speechless…thanks fazzo…
no problem, Florian fights next
Anderson Silva def. Nate Marquardt via TKO (strikes) at 4:50 of Round 1 to retain his UFC Middleweight title.
Kenny Florian def. Alvin Robinson via Submission (strikes) at 4:30 of Round 1.
So what was final outcome of rashad ortiz?
I’m shocked people are still doubting Silva after what he did to Franklin.
crazy lol but not surprised. Silva has fantastic hands and Marquardt
