“There’s a billboard of his big ugly gorilla face at the busiest point in Las Vegas … where it can scare kids who are riding by in their cars. Guess whose ugly head is on our billboard in Times Square? He’s a moron: A complete and total moron. His whole career, he’s stepped over a dollar to pick up a dime. I’m sick of him. It’s time he started beating up someone other than a nearly 50-year-old Ken Shamrock.”
– UFC President Dana White takes the gloves off and responds to accusations in a Yahoo!Sports column from light heavyweight Tito Ortiz who says that the UFC isn’t marketing him properly in the run-up to UFC 73.

Hahaha! Wow… ever the diplomat. No, how do you really feel about Tito?
“stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime”
how true
While I would agree about Tito, this is not the sort of thing Dana White should be saying publicly. He wants the UFC to not be grouped with wrestling, but then goes out and continues to make cartoonish remarks. If he wants to be taken seriously, he needs to act accordingly.
Tito thinks he isnt being markete correctly ? What did he do hire a focus group to conduct a scientific study on where there are billboards in Vegas of his monkey head ?
Seriously though Tito is the main draw on UFC 73 and his bout isn’t even for a title. Dana White knows that he will bring in PPV sales and make him more money than if Silva or Shrek were the main ticket. There are reports that show the Silva / Marquardt as the feautured bout, yet we all know who is gonna be bringing in the dollars and its Tito.
No doubt Tito is a complainer but we all got to see what kind of person he really is on TUF 3. Aren’t we a lil sick of hearing White dismantle him ?
If there is a billboard of his head in 2 busy cities that means it is viewable from at least 4 surrounding cities. That’s quadruple the publicity!
Maybe im missing something , what would be wrong with having your ugly mug on a billboard in Vegas and more importantly in Times Square?
How is that losing money?
Didnt the UFC pay for those billboards , or does Tito do his on publicity?
Confused.
I love it when Dana White meets all the expectations I have in him. Also very ironic to read this quote and then its followed by his prediction that MMA (probably under his regime) will become an olympic sport, an event driven not only by the athletes ambition to excel, but the mutual respect among everyone in the competition. With that show of great sportmanship Dana White clearly qualifies as the next olympic commitee president. Good job!
How many fights left on his contract?
Anyone?
Cause i am getting the feeling his pre-negotiation tactics are failing horribly.
I never thought I’d say this but if Dana White really did make this comment, then F*CK Dana White because he’s the one bad mouthing his money maker. Tito sells just as many tickets as Liddell, if not more.
I respect Rashad’s game and I apologize that it has to come at his expense but God, I cannot wait for Tito to put Rashad into a proverbial bodybag . . . and quick.
People are counting Ortiz out left and right, and I guarantee that we as MMA fans have yet to see the very best of Tito Ortiz.
It looks like its going to take a stoppage of someone like Shogun or someone of that caliber to convince some of you that the best of Tito Ortiz is on its way but I’m confident that we’re going to see Ortiz successfully go to war and run through the UFC’s best.
Oh, and Dana White, I understand that Tito’s actions may not always be the most mature but when it comes down to it, he trains his ass off for the UFC (ask Randy Couture who has openly stated that Tito is one of the, if not the best conditioned athlete in the UFC), he makes you a ton of money, and helps train many of your other fighters to be their very best so that they can secure a successful future for that of the UFC.
DW, I think you’re doing an amazing job with the UFC but a great President should know how to suck his pride up and appreciate the athletes that truly make the behind the scenes efforts (i.e. extensive training) to continue to help the UFC grow even larger.
He is a moron! I totally agree with Dana…For some reason or another Tito feels that the UFC owes him something. How many chances did the guy have to get is title back? 3? Lost to Randy and to Chuck twice..Dana gave him the fights and he lost. He doesn’t care about the sport he just cares about the money and having the camera’s on him, you think he would be dateing JJ otherwise???? Nope. It’s all a friggin show to him.
At the same time, it’s good to have someone in the sport who is like that and a good fighter. It makes it that much sweeter when he get’s his ass kicked(Go RaEvans!)…
All fighters in this sport need to take a page out of Couture’s book man. The guy is an unreal fighter, all ready a hall of famer and the most classy guy you will ever meet. I talked with him for like an hour one time and he didn’t need to do that. He cares about the sport, the people and like Dana doesn’t want people to think that all fighters are crazy ass stupid morons like Tito…
And exhale….
Dan, Dana, DANA ! Tell us how you really feel. Please, you are getting tired and losing focus on what’s appropriate to say becuse you have to be every-friggin-where at the same time monitoring your empire. Relax for a second and enjoy this thing…
JP JR, are you kidding me? We HAVE seen the best of Tito Ortiz, he had like a 5 title fight win streak, now long ago.
Look, Tito is past his prime, he is older, slower, and fatter than he used to be. He WAS an explosive striker once, (see metzger/ortiz 1) he is now an explosive elbower, that’s all he has got.
Tito’s best days are behind him, a lot of wear and tear on his body, he looks like an old 32.
I think Tito might pull out a split decision, but it won’t be easy for him.
Lastly, that Bitch-Tito deserves to get as much shit talked about him as possible. Tito talks more trash than anyone about everyone, truthfull quote by Dana as well.
“50 year old Ken Shamrock” hillarious!
But hey what do us guys know, after all we are all “Internet Knuckle-Heads” or at least thats what Dana White says lol.
Well, from an interweb knucklehead standpoint (and no, Im not taking that statement personally) Dana shooting his mouth off like this doesnt make Dana look good. It should be about Dana’s opinion of the guy… it should be about business. Im glad he made the statement that Tito should be fighting someone other then Shamrock, but Tito does enough to make himself look like a dick, dont need to add into it.
My father always said, if someone wants to hang themselves, feed them rope. Tito is looking like an idiot, and rather then just let Tito be Tito, Dana is looking like a jackass.
As much as Dana rips Tito, he’ll keep main-eventing him. They both make a ton of cash off each other.
JP JR, are you kidding me? We HAVE seen the best of Tito Ortiz, he had like a 5 title fight win streak, now long ago.
Schiro, I was going to say the same exact thing.
Dana White is a low class jerk. I don’t care if he’s right about Tito, he needs to act like a professional if he wants this sport to be taken seriously. Regardless of what he’s trying to say, there are multiple ways of saying it…and using terms like “big ugly gorilla face” and “total moron” just scream out “hey I’ve got the intellect of a ten year old boy.”
Here’s an acceptable response when informed that Tito thinks he needs more marketing:
“I disagree, but Tito is free to conduct additional marketing at his own expense.”
Dana White is a owner of a company but yet he acts like a 5 year old kid calling out his fighters in main-stream coverage. I am starting to hate Dana White, he needs t ostop calling out his fighters and start talking to them in private.
Dana white is an Asshole.
Jp jr wrote:

B.S. the best conditioned athlete in the UFC easily goes to Clay “The Carpenter” Guida.
Clay would have really put it on Griffin in rounds 4 and 5 even though Guida actually won(technically lost) the fight in 3.
When Tito starts beating top notch opponents i’ll start respecting him. I equate him with Ken…washed up. Hes recently fought two decent fighters chuck and forest. Chuck smashed him and he barely beat forest…not impressive imo
Everyone talking shit about Dana White, ARE YOU SERIOUS?
Hillarious, people mad cause Dana White said “gorilla face” and that “Dana White talks trash about his fighters”, and that “Dana is the president, he should have more class.”
Wake UP, Dana White HAS NEVER spoke a sentence without dropping a F-Bomb. Dana White has NEVER acted like he should so why would he start now? He would be faking it.
Seriously, Dana White drops more F-Bombs than anyone I have ever seen in my life, get over it, Dana is a lunatic and will continue to talk trash about his fighters.
As MMA fans, we all have certain fighters that we try a little harder to defend their talent/performance. For me, Tito Ortiz is that guy.
God knows he makes the job of defending him quite hard sometimes (more so with his out-of-the-ring antics) but I really believe that he’s got a lot left to offer.
I respect all of your opinions, and I hope that you respect my position in remaining loyal to the fighter that I choose to respect.
I believe that one of the finer points of being an MMA fan is that as different as our opinions may be, we all make them because we truly stand behind the sport of MMA, and its athletes.
In the end, though we may not always agree, I extend my full respect to every MMA fan that takes the time to support those that make it a reality.

Why does Dana need to act professional when he has made a living and made the UFC what it is today by being who he is??? Dana is one of the best business men out there dude…Professional or not….who cares…This is the friggin UFC not Microsoft…

Dana doesn’t own Zuffa….
ROFL Daner brins it.
how can dana white call out ortiz on the guys he’s beat when he’s the one who sets the fights?? why does dana white feel he has to defend himself against comments not even made directly towards him?? its obvious he has a childish grudge he’s holding against tito and its getting really old as a fan to continue to hear this shit over and over from the one guy who should always be the professional…we can expect the fighters to say things out of line or over the top every now and then, they are pro fighters, not presidents of multi million dollar companies…dana really makes himself look bad when he shows publicly that tito ortiz is getting to him like this…get over your own ego dana…
i agree with “cuts” that we all saw who tito as a person was on tuf 3 and i’m tired of hearing dana white take him apart at every other press conference just to make himself feel better about a childish little fued that we’re all sick of…
If Dana would be a man of his word he’d indeed try to get the best fighters to the UFC instead of wasting his time being a control freak and calling out HIS fighters.
Apparently the “fighter building” is stopping them from bringing in better competition in certain divisions, as stated by Paulo Filho:
… he (Dana White)’s going to keep me in Pride. I think he is scared that i beat his fighters, except for Anderson Silva. They wanna rebuilt Rich Franklin, Yushin okami sucks and almost caught him, if i was there, Franklin would get whooped. They don’t like brazilians, but they can’t hind, Anderson and I will rule UFC and Pride FC for a long time.
The more White rips on Tito, and rips off all the fighters, the more I want Tito to pound Evans through the mat. Dana is going to turn me into a Tito fan before its over I tell ya!
“stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime”
it’s too bad if it wasnt for Tito Ortiz, Dana White would just be an ex-boxer alcoholic working at BlockBuster..

I think they both have valid points. I think Tito is right and that Dana has too much control and I also tend to think that Tito is telling the truth about the fighter salaries. They probably aren’t paying the fighters enough compared to what the overall take in is. I also think that Dana is right and that the UFC has promoted Tito just fine. Forget the billboards, I’ve seen about 10k commercials for UFC 73 and Tito has been on every single one. That was stupid of Dana to take a shot at Tito for fighting Shamrock when he was the one who put it together. Final thoughts: Very unprofessional of both to be airing out their differences in public, not good for the sport.
And how is he not bringing the best fighters in the world over to the UFC. Lets see just brought Cro Cop, Neugera, Anderson Silva, Rampage, Dan Henderson, Shogun, Hayato Sakuri, Herring, and is close to a deal with Fedor and Im sure we’ll see more so Im not quite sure what your talking about.

First off, its Nogueira and Sakurai. Herring is by no means a challenge to any Top10 HW out there, so I don’t think he has any business being in the list. He simply got Herring to make him the new star for a bunch of hillbillies, so they can identify with an american - which obviously is not the case with a croatian, brazilian or canadian. Didn’t Rampage, one of the best fighters in the world, just beat one of Dana’s fighters and now he is going to defend against another one of the greatest fighters in the world? I think Dana has done a great job of protecting the integrity of the UFC… thus far. He, in my opinion has helped make the UFC what it is and they do have some of the best fighters in the world building or non building. I think there is still alot of talent outside of the UFC, but they are slowly flocking in. It is all about the money. These guys want to make a living doing what they love.
I dislike fighter building as well, but sometimes it is necessary. You can’t throw every great talent that crosses to the wolves. Sometimes, I think building them allows them to get the experience to be a better opponent. In my opinion Dana is doing fine. No complaints here. As long as the fights are straight, I will be happy.

LOL
Tito is Tito - Past his prime, worst business sense, disrespectful, racist trash talking, underpaid, poking a pornstar fighter.
Dana is Dana - Megalomaniacal, F-bomb dropping, disrespectful, cheapskate, marketing genius UFC President.
True, the UFC wouldn’t be what it is today without BOTH Tito and Dana, but neither is good for the UFC or the sport anymore.
Tito is constantly talking shit about Dana…his boss. How smart does that sound? Besides, Tito is becoming a gatekeeper for the LHW div more each day.
Dana’s southy (or wherever) schtick is tiresome. It is time for a new UFC spokesman and let Dana work his magic behind the scenes…and pay the damn fighters!
Personal issues aired in public are never good for business … unless you are into spectacles like Vince McMahon and I hope that is not what we are witnessing.
As for what I am talking about:
- Denis Kang (over-rated)
- Fedor Emelianenko (lazy russian)
- Josh Barnett (fat-boy)
- Shinya Aoki (won’t like the cage)
- Takanori Gomi (nick diaz)
- Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (2 lucky punches)
- Matt Lindland (hows the elbow)
- Gilbert Melendez (barely beat guida)
- Ricardo Arona (got KO’ed bad)
What has Tito said that was racist?

You are right about that grembone, except that Dana was running out of opponents for Chuck Liddell and we’ve all seen Liddell-Couture and Liddell-Ortiz at least one too many times. So what was the choice he really had? Shogun, Wanderlei, Rampage or Henderson.
1) Henderon is the Pride welterweight and middleweight champion, so he is obviously no pushover. Assessment: too hard
2) Wanderlei is considered one of the most aggressive and dangerous middleweights (LHW in the UFC), but came off two losses (Cro Cop and Henderson), so his otherwise legitimate claim to fight Chuck was. Assessment: more potential at a later stage
3) Shogun is totally unknown among the average UFC fans and hard to figure out what he chances really would be. Assessment: hard to market him
4) Rampage - he KO’ed Liddell, who then again could avenge his loss, which is always good for marketing. Also, in Pride he was considered the weakest of those 4 guys, as he got his ass kicked by both Wanderlei and Shogun. Assessment: the perfect candidate for Chuck to get one more victory and become a Hall of Famer.
Dana NEVER expected or wanted Chuck to lose, because not only they are somewhat like friends, Chuck is also the posterboy in the UFC with his marketing-friendly nickname: “The Iceman”.

Grembone, you are kinda right - but I think Dana really expected a different outcome. I wrote a more extensive answer with some arguments, but it seems like I overextended my stay here once again, as my comments get deleted by the admins.
AaronW: Tito called Rashas Evans a “nappy headed hoe”, which was a reference to the scandal caused by Don Imus on his radio show. Anyone who thinks Tito was being racist apparently missed that it was meant as a joke - even thou I don’t find it very smart nor funny myself.

Dana’s awesome. Every single division is at least twice as deep as a couple years ago. There are fighters for all sorts of demographic appeal. MMA is on tv all the time, and there are pay per view events monthly. There are now big non-title matches on all the time.
Maybe all you drama queens need your special heroes. I just love all the fights.

I agree that Dana made the UFC, but it was by his marketing/business decisions, not by his idiotic comments. When UFC was a cult attraction, he could say what he wanted without any concern. But the more Dana pushes for the UFC to go global and tries to be the spokesman for MMA as a whole, the more his public comments and actions will matter, in that they have more impact on the general perception of UFC and MMA.
I have no problem with Dana being “who he is” but the more he makes moronic statements (like Rampage beating Liddell = Buster Douglas beating Tyson), the more I think his success was due to having some rich friends. If Dana wants to talk like a fighter, then he should fight. If he wants to be a business man, then he should talk like a business man.

Why do you take your comment back? You’ve been right with what you said and his reply is a pretty weak excuse. He said himself, that it was kidding, but then says: oh, only in those and those cases. So he was serious about Kang, read Fedor and cracked a joke, same with Barnett, but when he read Aoki and Gomi he was once again very serious about his comments, only to return to his funny self about Sokoudjou and so on.
Tito sells just as many tickets as Liddell, if not more.
Where’d you find the facts to back this up? or did you just pull it out of your ass.

Yea, you are right. I just pulled that list with random names out my a*se. It’s not like I mentioned the #1 heavyweight in the world, the #1 lightweight in the world and the #1 middleweight in the world.
- Denis Kang (over-rated)
- Fedor Emelianenko (lazy russian)
- Josh Barnett (fat-boy)
- Shinya Aoki (won’t like the cage)
- Takanori Gomi (nick diaz)
- Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (2 lucky punches)
- Matt Lindland (hows the elbow)
- Gilbert Melendez (barely beat guida)
- Ricardo Arona (got KO’ed bad)
You know what, Fedor is a lazy Russian.
He has had like 1 serious fight in the last 2 years.
Mark Hunt? It wasn’t K-1 rules.
Mark Coleman? Mark Coleman is the Ken Shamrock of Pride!
Matt Lindland? Best 185 in the world, thats 2, count em 2 weight classes below him, pathetic.
Tsuyoshi Kohsaka? Who?
Fedor is a lazy russian and Arona did get KTFO by 1 of Sokoudjou’s 2 lucky punches, Barnett is fat, and melendez won a split decision over guida, I stand by what I first wrote.
tou che’ UFCmania
Anyone who rips on a fighter like Tito, who is obviously one of the most talented fighters in the LHW division is pretty much insecure about themselves in some way (Dana White). That’s all fighter bashing is; insecurity. I hate Liddell and Hughes…but do I respect their fighting ability, of COURSE!
The reason everyone hates on Tito is because of his “antics” and I can fully understand that. But, people who call Tito washed up, passed his prime, or a shitty fighter are very insecure and they find it amusing to piss off Tito fans on the internet so they can bust a nut in their pants.
I used to really appreciate what Dana White did for the UFC and MMA in general. But, recently when all he decides to do is belittle his employees; sorry one of his employees, and drop the F-bomb in every sentence it makes me see what every boxing promoter and every Pride fan used to say about him. He is a very immature president who needs to grow the hell up and stop acting like a freaking WWE president wannabe!
Tito doesn’t deserve this shit, I hope after he crushes Rashad and crushes his next opponent he goes to Strikeforce or Elite XC, where he won’t be robbed of his rightfully earned dollar and have to listen to a president who calls him names like a little freaking kid. Dana if Tito leaves you are going to lose a lot of money! All I know is some of my money will be diverted from the UFC to another promotion soon…
I’ve just been reading through this thread. Great Post JP JR

WOW. People like this are why the real MMA fans are practically praying for the UFC to get the deal with Fedor done. If you think he is lazy, you have never seen him fight. Name me heavyweights with more of a killer instinct than Fedor. And don’t you dare see Arlovski because I know you’ve seen him fight recently.
correction - “… SAY Arlovski…”

Fedor is good, he is perfect and does nothing wrong, sorry for speaking against our beloved leader.
Why don’t you actually read what I wrote, I said he was LAZY with the level of fighters he has faced the last 2 years. I supplied the less than stellar list earlier. I am an MMA fan that actually knows something, I am right, you are wrong.
I would never say Arlovski, he is the opposite of Killer instinct, shows what you know. You are unable to debate on an intelligent level. I provide facts not worthless blather.

You made yourself dumb by saying Fedor is a lazy Russian…and let me think….yep still dumb…
You sound dumb even though you wrote very little.
I was just kidding anyway. Did you think any of the things I wrote were valid? I really didn’t, except for the aoki, gomi, kang, and lindland comments.
Should I assume everything people say on here is sarcasim? Why wouldn’t I think what you were saying was valid? Sorry man were not talking person to person it’s not easy to read sarcasim…
I was just making a point that is you think Fedor is lazy then your dumb, but since you were being “sarcastic” I take back my earlier comment…
C’mon, that the lamest excuse I ever heard. You can’t feed us bullsh*t and afterwards put some sugar on it and sell it as candy.
I didn’t really take my comment back, I was being “sarcastic” because I know he was just trying to back peddle. The fact that you can say anything negative about Fedor is beyond me. I haven’t seen many flaw’s in his game, sure Lindland almost had an upset but all the great fighters have experience surprise….except Fedor…for right now…
Mark Hunt and Zulu are Super Heavyweight fighters, so you can’t argue that Matt Lindland was “too light” as a middleweight, as simply did not had to cut weight this time and Fedor obviously takes on every weightclass.
He also fought Cro Cop in the last 2 years and Kohsaka (do your homework) was Fedor’s only loss and he avenged that. I bet you did not complain when Chuck wanted to avenge his losses to polish his career/resumee.

Tsuyoshi Kohsaka? Who?…….
I did do my homework, do yours.
I am a heretic for speaking against our lord, darth fedor, my thoughts have been erased from record, please forgive me, my master.
What a joke!
dana will have to start paying tito the money once he starts to go through everyone in the 205 pound division. on july 7th u will see titos prime when he stops rashad in the first round via G n P!!!!!
