I am getting really annoyed with the UFC. I have not missed a fight in years and I mean not even one. Even though I am shelling out 45 bucks a pop (monthly)now. It wouldnt be so bad, except they are not even showing the undercards any more. THey used to show them after the main event. So for a while after the big fights you could watch the up and coming fighters. Really, they are shooting themselves in the foot. The inevitable backlash coming. And after the frayed relationships with some of the big name fighters, if they alienate the hard core audience. they wont be able to give thse fights away. ENOUGH DANA!!

Anyone experiencing their first telecast of MMA on television would have to consider the sport brutal after watching that Mcfedries knockout. It supports the opposition's case when they try to dehumanize the sport, that everyone on this site loves, by calling it "human cockfighting". We can't condone brutality in the octagon by hiding behind the rule that a fighter keeps fighting until the referee stops it. Each fighter as ironic as this sounds, has to be responsible for the safety and welfare of their fellow combatant. Everyone watching that fight at home knew the guy was out cold before he hit the ground. The person most aware and with the best view was McFedries. Please stop saying the ref should be fired. Experienced referees must be hard to come by and I would hope that this ref will learn from this experience.
I've never posted before but I just wanted to say how ridiculous that McFedries stoppage was. You cant let a man take two or three shots to an unguarded face like that. It was bad before I even knew Radev was taken out on a stretcher. Bad job by the refs on this one. This is the type of thing MMA doesnt need right now.
Shouldn't the refs be required to be in some kind of shape, meaning they can move quick enough so they can rescue the guy getting pummeled. The ref for the fight in mention looked like shit, like he's never seen the inside of a gym, the guy was as slow as a f**king glacier. The guy should be fired, the ref should be responsible for the fighters safety, he should be able the throw the fighter off the other fighter, quickly.

The ref in the McFedries fight was WAY late. After Radev got hit by the uppercut, he fell like he was almost out cold. But the replay showed the ref didnt' even flinch. He should have gotten into position to stop McFedreis if he throws a punch or two and Radev doesn't defend himself. He didn't have a good angle to see how hard Radev was hit, but the way he fell should have been an obvious clue.

It was like he was spectator and forget he was the ref.

The Spencer Fischer Sam Stout fight may have been the best fight that the UFC has ever produced. Those guys looked like Mickey Ward and Arturo Gatti, and even Hearns versus Hagler os the early 1980's.

Those two put on a fucking show and were hitting each other like they were 200 pounds.
Also, on Mania's other thought about Johnson's "black man' comments... I didnt get the feeling that Johnson was making an audacious joke out of it like Rampage does. You can tell that when Rampage talks about "getting his ass kicked by a big black man..' Rampage is making jokes. He knows that to most of the fighters in MMA, race, creed, whatever doesnt mean much. Johnson made me laff by his comments, but definitely not in a good way.

Agree dude.
As a black man, I felt what he said was off base & way out of place. Unless there was something said behind the scenes that would rationalize him making that statement, I can't see the justification for it.

On that same note, during the Countdown to 72 show, what was up with Forrest's comments about not losing to a Hispanic about? Again, another unwarranted comment that was completely out of place. Whats up with that Forrest?

i was kinda pissed off about the stout fisher fight, reminded me a lot of parisyan v sanchez. where they made it sound like spencer fisher was just completely dominating and i thought it was way closer on the cards than they made it sound. i mean joe rogan was talking up fisher so much im surprised he didnt ask for a towel. fisher's name and experience in the UFC helped him win that fight. im not saying he deserved to lose, but it was a hell of a lot closer than the commentators made it seem.

Yeah, McFedries fight should have been stopped way sooner. The referee dropped the ball on that one. The guy was out when he hit the ground. McFedries should also take the blame because those 2 or 3 extra shots were just plain wrong.

<i>"From an MMA standpoint..."</i>
Does the absence of ground work makes it less of an MMA fight?
Nah.
Just slugging without skill?
Nah.
Spencer Fisher was chopping and cutting Stout's offense with accurate combinations that included his right and left leg. I don't really think that particular match was a slugfest at all. Spencer Fisher has some serious technical striking skills. Positioning your body to offset your opponent's punch or kick takes skills. Can we mention Stout's ability to defend the takedown properly and effectively. He made sure the fight did not go to the floor.

I can't really call the Jardine-Houston fight a slugfest because all I saw was the first seconds of a fight where you attempt to measure your reach and the best way to attack from there. They both tasted each other's punch and Jardine just happened to drop when he got caught coming in.

For slugfest, check Diego Corrales vs Jose Luis Castillo. Classic slugfest.

A striking match can not be technical? I see the sentiment throughout the comments. This is just my opinion and observation

This Tavares cat is pretty good. Displayed some cockiness too after the fight. He looked like little Vitor in there(actually they do look alike). I agree, give him Florian next to see what he's made of.

One of your longer write-ups and definitely worth every inch.

"What impressed me the most about this fight was that if you watch how Fitch competes, you'll notice how he's always working. Tied up against the cage? Hammer fists to the thigh. Slammed to the mat? Punches to the ribs and head."

This description reminded me of Kendall Grove. I also agree Fitch needs to see a top 5 guy in his next fight. Anything less than that would make me wonder about how they set up fights.

As for the McFriedes stoppage, I agree that both the ref (inadvertantly) and McFriedes let that go too far. I think back to when Rich Franklin knocked out Nate Quarry. There is a perfect example of a fighter knocking a guy out, realizing it and backing off. Mazagatti is usually on point, so he should be forgiven.

Hopefully Radev heals up and gets back into the cage, but his opponent will have to be of a different caliber. He just doesn't have what it takes for a upper-B-level fighter like McFriedes.
