More than one month out, UFC.com recently made one of the most solid cards in recent history from top to bottom official.
UFC 73: “Stacked” features two title fights — middleweight champion Anderson Silva vs. Nathan Marquardt and lightweight champion Sean Sherk vs. Hermes Franca — as well as the showdown between Tito Ortiz and Rashad Evans in the 205-pound division.
Of course, former PRIDE FC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will make his Octagon debut against Heath Herring, which will mark the third time the two have faced one another (”Big Nog” has taken the two previous bouts).
In addition to the 155-pound title fight, there are two other lightweight match ups on this card that should be dynamite. Kenny Florian will go up against the highly touted UFC newcomer Alvin Robinson, and Frank Edgar will look to keep his undefeated UFC record (2-0) against Canadian jiu-jitsu sensation Mark Bocek.
Don’t sleep on these fights … both should be extremely competitive and exciting.
Stephan Bonnar will also return after serving a nine-month suspension for testing positive for banned substances when he faces Mike Nickels in a clash between two 205-pound fighters.
Oh, and by they way, Chris Lytle and Drew Fickett will go to war to see who can inch up a bit closer in a stacked welterweight division.
On paper, this line up is absolutely insane. UFC brass and matchmaker Joe Silva should be commended for putting together a card that should thrill fans from the moment the first preliminary bout begins.
UFC 73: “Stacked” will take place on Saturday, July 7 at the Arco Arena in Sacramento California. To check out the complete UFC 73 fight card click here.
(Remember: Even if UFC 73 is a sell-out crowd — and I can’t imagine it won’t be — tickets can still be purchased through StubHub.com.)

now if they would only SHOW THE WHOLE FRICKING CARD!!!!
I hate paying 40 bucks and then having to get online to check who won the pre lims. thats bullshite
now if they would only SHOW THE WHOLE FRICKING CARD!!!!
I think a line up like this really highlights that something needs to be done. There has to be a restriction or reason the UFC does not show the entire cards. I’d pay and few bucks to see all these fights, that’s for sure.
Check your email, Mania.
And yes, for this card, I’d pay an extra $20 to see the undercard streamed on ProElite.
I agree guys..We should be able to see the whole card..Man and this is THE BEST DAMN FIGHT CARD THE UFC PUT TOGETHER TO DATE..I want see all of them start to finish.
71 showed more fights than usual…like 6 0r 7 if im not mistaken, and they knew what happend to Irving, so im glad they didnt show that one….this is goin to be a nice ppv…ficket vs Lytle will be a nice fight im sure…i hope Rashad vs Tito doesnt turn into a snooze fest, sherk and hermes will probably get fight of the night though…and i just hope a Silva has a good gameplan….my only beef with the Nog fight is i wish he was fighting someone else, i like watching herring for the most part, but these guys have already fought 2, and it would be nice to see nog showcase his skills someone else
Your gonna see the old ( the real ) Heath Herring in this one. The one that loses to top talent, sure, but the guy is ( was ) NEVER boring.
Your StubHub link gives “Sorry! This event is no longer available for purchase. Please select a different event.”
This link should work: http://snipurl.com/UFC73
Minotauro vs Heath 1 was nuts..Man that was a war..Submission clinic put on by Minotauro and Heath submission defense clinic..part 2..Minotauro got him in the anacanda choke..part 3..I hope will finish the Trilogy off right.
Minotauro wins by a Flying Triangle Choke..;-)
Love this card I would definitely watch Tito get knock out. N Shawn Sherk is not a good champion defending your belt once a year. Dat sucks for the 155 class. Go Hermes.

I hope its not awlays like this…i like sherk, i think he is definately top talent at 155 and will be hard for anyone to beat..he does need to get healthy and defende more, or its just a waste of awesome championship fights, and a lot of 155ers will deserve to get their shots one after the other…as stacked as that division is, the champ should be the busiest man in the business if you ask me

totally agreed, if you got the belt you should be fighting like 3 times a year at the least. I hope Franca wins as well just cause Sherk was not healthy. Maybe after he see’s he doesn’t have the belt, he will stay healthy, and fight more.
Other sports and even wrestling have Pay Per Views that last four hours. The UFC only 3 hours. They should go from 9 to 1 instead of 10 or maybe 10 to 2am. My opinion is that if they started with the prelims, and they only have a certain time allotted, they run the risk of getting cut off during the main event and that is something that would be devastating. People might be afraid to buy future PPV for fear of it happening again. This way they ensure they never run out of time, and if the fights go quick, they do show some of the Prelims
This whole card is crazy… Im even more amped about it then I was UFC 70s original card.
I love this card!
I think this card will have more bark than bite. Silva vs. Marquardt has the real possibility of being a dud. Silva will come to fight, but Nathan will make this a very long 5 rounder. Marquardt is so well rounded but lacks any killer instinct, he makes great fights mediocre to watch.
Sherk and Franca. Hermes is wild, but I don’t think he has what it takes to stuff Sherk. Look for another 5 rounder G n P.
Ortiz vs Evans. This is a make or break fight for Ortiz. Look for both fighters to get or avoid the take downs resulting in alot of long clinches. This one will also go to the judges, Ortiz is not a finisher and Rashad is fighting a live body not another Salmon. This will be the dud of the night!
Loom for Minotauro to finish Herring quick again. And Lytle to take out Fickett in a decision.
I am telling you, just the fact that the UFC is calling this card “Stacked” will result in this card being a dud.
I think this card will have more bark than bite.
And the earth is flat. A small minority of ppl still believe that no matter how much you tell them the truth.
Why, even if Silva and Nate fought for 5 rounds, would it be a dud? These are two of the most technical and tactical fighters alive today. Well, some ppl didnt like Machida v Heath.
What kind of fights do the newer fans wanna see? They dont want tactical fights, they dont want 1:30 KOs, they dont want submission fights, no one wants snoozefests, what do they want? Do you wanna see 3 rd bloodbaths, or James Thompson v Frye, what?
I am realy realy realy looking forward to this card it is gonna be “awsome dude cowabunga” as Americans always say.
I think Tito is gonna be taking his fight with Rashad very seriously and I hope he wins,I like Tito, when Chucks gone Tito is gonna be a serious contender for the title.
This will not be an average fight either excelent or boring,I hope excelent.
Tito after this fight will of fought the winners of TUF1 and TUF2,maby then it will be time to fight none other then the count Michael Bisping,
now that would be a fight, teacher vs student,
ARE YOU READY ARE YOU READY
LETS GET IT ON
COME ON!!!!!
Some of the prelims on 73 are more interesting than the top bouts in 72.
I still wish they would match Stefan Boner against Shogun instead.

Yeah there should be mandatory defenses during the year. Three would be great but at least two. Okay, 2.5- if you only defend twice in 2006 say, then you have 3 mandatory defenses in 2007.
I think it has been damn near a year since Shark and ‘Flo fought.

They could get quite a few fights in during the three hour slot if they wouldn’t f$ck around so much between fights. What takes so damn long? They don’t clean the cage between fights. Never, never interview the loser. Just let him/her leave the cage. Raise the winners hand. Ask them three questions, give the translator time to translate and then on to the next fight.
This is still a fledgling sport and they’ll get it right eventually.
Pride never had a problem showing nine fights in 3.5-4 hours. In the cage, outta the cage, in the cage, outta the cage… I dont need to here Blogums anymore than I already do.

Herring is a weird guy. He seems to fight better once he’s certain he has lost the contest.

Apparently, you arent aware of the newbie law, MTUFC. Whatever happened in the last, and probably only fight seen by a newbie, that a fighter has fought in, ablsolutely sums up how talented that fighter is. Get with the program.
As for this card, HOLY SH*T. I think Marquardt has a better chance agains Silva that Franca does against SHerk. Its a style matchup thing, not a talent thing.
Also, if Evans can beat Ortiz, than I have doubled up on my Rampage winnings.

Law #8 of the MMA Ten Commandments. I forgot. My bad.
im just excited cuz sacramento kinda sux.
can wait to move back to phoenix.
hopefully this card makes my three years i have to live here just a little bit kinder.
does anyone really care about 72?… damn, i guess im the only one

this was only because they fit in the three hour time limit. pride would just strat at 5 and oh well if it ended at 8. no tape delays… usually anyway

i still think most the tuf guys are overrated…
maybe i should give them a break and call them inexperienced

i dont really think many fights have been duds….
AA vs silvia 2 and 3… really dont know what to say
AA vs werdun… AA had a gameplan to not go to the ground, but think he should have done a whole lot more standing
sanchez vs KOS… i dont know if anyone else has the same take on this fight but i would love to hear feedback… KOS was definitivly winning the stand up by one punch bombs on the button. in the first round he took sanchez down just to get an extra point or two, but 5 seconds after he took diego down, diego had his back. im sure KOS was like HOLY SHIT… no way i am going to the ground with this dude again… and the rest of the fight was boring
only two ways a fight can be “duds”…
two guys that feel each other out for 3 rounds
the guy i want gets knocked out way too soon ala GSP
I can see Herring putting on a clinic at “Stacked”. As many have pointed out, he was once a pretty crazy fighter who was involved in memorable bouts (with some big time opponents). If the guys has pride, he’ll be ready for a familiar foe. He’ll do what he can to erase the rep he gained during his snoozefest with Obrien.
I still don’t see him winning, just gaining a little respect back.
War Frank Edgar!

Yeah, cuz Marquardt and Salaverry was a 3 round barnburner! I love a technical fight, along as the fighters are trying to finish their opponent. Marquardt does not try to finish, he only trys to nullify his opponent’s attacks.
I have following Nate “the great” since his Pancrase days and his style is boring to me. He has a similiar mind set as Tim Sylvia, just do enough to get the nod.
Nate is “great”, he’s just not the greatest to watch.
I think some people mis-understood my opinion of UFC 73 “Stacked”.
On paper this card looks f’n BIG. I just have a wierd feeling that it won’t live up to the moniker.
Styles make fights, I just think most of these styles don’t compliment each other.

WADZ… i think you are new here but dang!!!
I dont think i need to post anymore.
After reading your posts on manny vs wiman and herring, we think alike. you can type and i cant. i retire. can you just add my name to your posts?
This should be card of the year, just hope it lives up to the hype.

Well put MTUFC.
Herring is an ego wrapped version of his former self… Minotauro is gonna rip his arm off.
Look at the picture of Tito… is he trying to hold in a deuce? Whats with Sherk - Hey Look at me! Im the new Matt Hughes!

Are you serious? I cant remember the last time I said cowabunga….
I hope Anderson Silva destroyes Marquardt in the 1st just like did Franklin! with a clinch and tons of knees to the broken nose! You know to strike fear into the hearts of the 185 division!!
i hope so too…
the spider and da spyda are the only 2 guys i really like right now

I don’t know about what you all think, but I have a feeling thing that this card may have the potential of topping a million PPV buys.
I am going to this fight and I cant wait. I have my tickets and everything. Damn tickets cost 550 a piece but it will be worth it {I hope!}
I can’t wait for this card. This will definetly make up for 72
