i hope to see soko in the octogon soon
Am I crazy or did that ref look like Hervé Villechaize
For those with ADD, the throw is at the 1 minute remaining mark.
I can’t believe he agreed to go against an elephant! He is got some balls
Karo is acutally in my eyes totally to blame for Judo’s attributes in the UFC/MMA..he popularized Judo for UFC fans in general.
nice that was a treat, so what was soko a white belt in that video? going against a black belt, who’s got balls?
Soko and Karo are both world class Judokans. But check out my man Tobikan Judan. Or, for the new ppl, Shinya Aoki…

Both are black belts, and were wearing white gis, apparently the judges did that to tell them apart….yes one is 170 pound armanian and the other is a huge african with dreads
Karo is the Judo master. Bottom line, the best.
The thing you gotta remember about Karo is…. his throws are the best in the world, while all other judo throws are done by little girls…….
Nice knee pick
Everyone here knows that Jujitsu is a subcategory of Judo, right?

Yes, new and improved for practicallity in my opinion. Branched off from Japan did it not?
And I would just like to say these are the kind of arcticles I love to see. The kind of things you wonder aobut, the kind of behind the scenes stuff. Nice one.

This was great to see. I’ve been curious about Soko’s Judo prowess & I just got my answer. 205 is officially headed for chaos!

Another YouTube pausing….Seems awesome anyways. Never seen this before until today. I hope Dana brings in Soko
props, very cool.
if this is judo count me out, what the heck happened? i saw nothing interesting at all. i don’t understand how karo won, he didn’t do n-e-thing. in an interview he said he through soko around all over the place??? where? and was this that match? judo is trash. it kinda looked like greco roman wrestling
oh and whats up with the ankle sweeps? it looked gay
Wow, some of you guys say you know a lot about MMA, and yet you trash Judo? Judo is awesome, they are just very evenly matched. Karo did push the pace on a much bigger dude, awesome match.
Karo’s Judo throws are amazing. One of the best in the league and he is also young. I cant wait for his next fight.
If you guys wanna see JUDO, scroll back up, click the Shinya Aoki link in my post, and enjoy. If you dont like that, then you aint getting it.

Yeah, ok. Sure.
The fact is both Karo and Suko have very nice Judo. Karo attempted two throws (ko ouchi gari and morote seionage) and won by ippon because he got Sokoudjou off balance and made his back fully touch the mat. Sokoudjou did not attempt a single throw and tried to establish gripping by jumping and reaching over and across Karo’s back (not sharp). Karo was establishing much better grip set-ups and landed hit his throws lightning quick.
What’s not to like?
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Boring……….
i cant wait until suko is in the ufc
nice vid
Soko was really lucky he has 20 pounds on ‘the heat’. If not, Karo woulda eaten this guy.
You either like or you dont. I found it nice to see the backgrounds of todays mma fighters. Is Judo competed at different weight classes or is open weight?
Soko is the shit. Even though he lost this he has some great throws.
Here is a funny video that Evan Shoman recorded.
Soko Judo throws
Is Sokoudjou pronounced just like its spelled?

Aoki is a beast! Its too bad that he went over to Deep, which I am a fan of, but only watch when it goes ontot he internet (by the way Deep 22nd Impact = best event ever).
Everyone flipped out when Diaz pulled the Gogoplata (that how you spell it?), but Aoki has pulled that before, along with a myriad of submissions, one of which snapped the dude’s arm while he was still standing. I think he would go real deep into the 170 lb divison and possibly take the lightweight, if he came over here and fought in hte UFC.

A true fan.
I would say it was a fairly rough fight, karo half heartedly trying things and Soko just trying to rough house him. I like Karo but didnt really like the fight. Boring, nah. But not overly exciting. I watch all karos fights multiple times and couldnt watch the judo fight more than once. I do judo and a bit of wrestling.
I remember back in ufc 2 with Remco Perdu when he did soto makikomi and ended with kesa gatame and 4 elbows to the dome. Thats what really got me thinking this is awesome.
There are lots of cool judo fighters in asia and really I dont understand why more dont get into MMA. Don Frye did judo too I am pretty sure.
Lots of people dismiss Judo but I think it is as much a valid a beginner combat system for MMA as Boxing, Kickboxing, Ju Juitsu & Wrestling. You get ground awareness, throws, escapes & pins, chokes and submissions.
Lets just put it this way. yah that fight was a little boring. but its a judo match of course its going to be boring. if theres a fight between a wrester who knows what hes doing and a judo guy who knows what hes doing the outcome is always going to be the same. the wrestler dominates. a wrestler will beat a judo guy any day of the week.
Everyone here knows that Jujitsu is a subcategory of Judo, right?
Other way around boss. Judo spawned off of jujitsu in early Japan.

judo is a subcategory of jujitsu, jujitsu came first and judo uses certain fundamentals but not others like striking
Everyone here knows that Jujitsu is a subcategory of Judo, right?
Wrong, Judo is a sub-category of jujitsu. The man who developed Judo, Kano Jigoro, did so because of the unnecessary complexity of traditional Japanese Jujitsu. He began training in Jujitsu at first. Dissatisfied with it, he derived Judo, basing much of it on Jujitsu, but simplifying it in the process.

No, YOU’RE wrong. “Jujutsu” in pre-judo Japan (before the 1880’s) was a hodge-podge of dozens of different Japanese arts comprising everything from striking to grappling to throws. The inventor of Judo, Jigoro Kano, studied a lot of these various arts and decided to consolidate the best ones, discarding the ones that didn’t work or were too dangerous or impractical to practice at. Kano consolidated them and called it “Judo”—which incorporated most of the ground techniques you see today in MMA, but PLUS throws and clinch-fighting—including standing armlocks. Remember—”Judo” is just the term given to the consolidated hodge-podge of arts that included various “JuJutsu” techniques. In fact, in America, “Judo” for the early couple decades of the 20th century was referred to (erroneously) as “JuJutsu” or “JuJitsu” or “JiuJuitsu.” In fact, a disciple of Jigoro Kano’s—named “Maeda”— who learned “Judo” (i.e., JuJitsu) from Kano, left Japan and traveled to Brazil, where he taught Helio Gracie’s father all his methods. Yes, that’s a fact—Maeda was a Judo guy who taught the Gracies Judo techniques. The Gracies dispensed with the throws and concentrated on the groundwork. The only reason Judo in America and Europe slowly morphed to the point today where throws are probably emphasized about 60% and groundwork 40%, is because the sport-aspect (i.e., Olympics) made the throws more exciting to watch. But otherwise, Judo (i.e. “JuJitsu”) is what spawned Brazilian JuiJiutsu. The Brazilians are great at marketing and try to deny where their art came from, because it’s not as exciting to admit that their art was around long before the Gracies ever learned it. Judo rocks. This is all true what I wrote…it’s history. The Gracies just don’t want you to believe it. They even rename the techniques to make it look like they invented them.
