Interesting to note that Dana White and others keep stating that boxing is dead and how they are kicking boxing's *ss. but he's hoping they did around 1 million ppv buys in the biggest match-up of the sport between liddel vs. jackson, yet just 3 weeks ago, de la hoya vs mayweather did over 2 million ppv buys!! seems boxing is still kicking ufc's *ss!

You dont need high profile fighters to have a good card.
Agree, jb, but that card is just bad. I wanna see Franklin/Okami ( who doesnt ), Marcus Davis ( on untelevised portion ), and Tyson Griffin. I hear Stevie Lynch is a must see fighter, but we wont this time.
Not worth $40.
With all the 'upsets' lately, I don't feel so solid on Franklin over Okami.
I think Okami/Franklin is close, hardly an upset.

I think they are intentionally offering less on UFC 72 to see what kind of numbers they still pull. If 72 is reasonable, then we can expect fewer and fewer big fights per card.

Similar situation I believe: the Chicago Cubs have sucked forever. But Wrigley Field is almost always full so the management doesn't have to shell out for big time players to buy a championship. They are just in it to make money. If they offer crap and we still pay for it like junkies, then they have no incentive to put together great match-ups.

Around 1 million PPV buys, wow. Don't know about elsewhere but cable providers around here charge $39.95 for the event. So that is nealry $40 million in retail PPV- almost 10 times the gate.
It's the guys like me who sit on their ass at home eating chips and plunk down $39.95 that are providing the juice.

Your right, but you need big names to sell big ppv #. The pub I go to charged $10bucks to get in for UFC, but this one isn't worth 40 bucks.
I most certainly will NOT be buying 72. I'll be at my local Buffalo Wild Wings watching it for free :)
Same here my friend, they have free drinks and free refills as well.
