ufc 72 Victory
UFC 72: “Victory” will be broadcast LIVE via pay-per-view (PPV) here in the United States at 3 p.m. EST on Saturday, June 16, according to FightNetwork.com.

The first-ever event from Belfast, Ireland, was originally slated to air via tape delay on the Spike television network, similar to the latest European show, UFC 70: “Nations Collide” on April 21.

However, recent reports indicate that Spike stonewalled the UFC’s plan to show the event on its network. Therefore, with the HBO deal still in limbo, the UFC had no other option but to go the PPV route.

For all the background on this mess just click here.

It’s not the ideal situation, especially for fans who have to pony up another $39.95 to watch a fight card in the middle of a Saturday afternoon that is nothing to write home about.

But, it is what it is.

On that note, to check out the latest — and seemingly complete — UFC 72 fight card click here.

I buy every UFC Event on PPV… looking at this card, going to have to leave this one off of my DVR.

Not going to pay for this one and hope to see the replay on one of the UFC Unleashed shows

I would make Spike pay! This would piss me off If i was the UFC brass, they should jump at the chance for another live event. Otherwise what is the point? Live fights is what the UFC wants.
1.7 is pretty damm good for spike, better than anything else they carry.

Watch it at 7 or 8 then when they replay it! Have a clue!
U can see it live or tape delay your choice.

If they didnt show it at 3, then it would be taped delay, same as watching the immediate replay.

They would just go to Versus, or maybe try hard for ESPN, but it allows a competitor to come in and get into Spike.

Can anyone tell me why Spike turned the UFC down? It is kind of an abiguous situation. If UFC got ESPN broadcasting, I think that would definitely be a whole new level of the UFC “taking over”.

Good point. I hate Hooters wings and the plastic surgery showcase, but Gatorsdockside has it here in Florida. They also have beer and wings. Toss in a little MMA and I’m there!

Don’t get so mad at Spike, people. Remember, it’s not like the UFC HAS to charge the full price for this PPV, right? Can’t they just make it 29.99 or even 19.99?

I get it but UFC is really pushing it with this one to me. I’d rather them take a little longer between each actual event like they used to and put on a Show.

i’m just gonna get together with 4 or 5 friends and split the ppv, have a good afternoon of fights and then let that carry over to a good sat. night, hopefully it will turn into a good thing having the ppv early, who knows, i just like watching the fights no matter what time they are…

go to five ounces of pain.com. they have the download. it’s actually looking pretty good that they might go to espn in 08. i agree this would be the best fit for the ufc and for espn. whatever ufc they show would probably get higher ratings than anything else that espn airs. spike just shot itself in the foot.

I agree they’re getting to much like the WWE(WWF) when they were starting to get popular. They started doing PPV’s every month and you actually get tired of it because the product becomes so waterdown. MMA is a little different because a fight is a fight, but like I said before a Company can grow to fast and end up hurting themselves in the end. Take your time to build up some anticipation and stacked the cards with 6 PPV’s a year instead of 12.

When I saw Dana at the fight club weigh ins for UFC 70 he said that the fight cards would be just as good here as the US and that the next european UFC would be a title fight. I think its a bit of a poor show to have Rich Franklin headlining. Is this the best the UFC can do? I am thankful they are branching out to the UK and the rest of Eurpoe but they need to keep with the formula that made it successful in the US which is a title fight at every UFC and the rest of the card stacked with interesting fights. If they spread themselves too thin they could come unstuck

Sorry, but comments like this kinda crack me up. Im a fan of the sport for the sport.. you can see kick ass fights pretty frequently if you check out MMA as a whole, IFL, Bodog, etc… It doesnt have to be a big name in a headliner to get me to enjoy it.

What I don’t like is the use of the numbering system for the European fights. They should keep the UFC 7x for the monthly PPV shows that are mostly US based and have at least one title fight per card. Develop a different number system (like EURO1, 2, 3…) for the European or World shows that air on cable channels like HBO or ESPN. Keep the UFN for Spike or another channel.

They could have a really good feeder system. TUF to UFN to Europe to PPV.

As far as this PPV, they should cut the price to $20, but they won’t.

Don’t worry in the USA, this event will probably get pulled so your PPV fee will be saved.

I’ve just checked out the Odyssey Arena ticket sales against the seating plan, and I reckon that about 3,000 have been sold (capacity is 10,000). Compare this to UFC 70, where 14,000 tickets were sold in the first two weeks.

The marketing has been shocking to say the least. I live in Belfast and, apart from one banner on some high-rise scaffolding in the city centre, the posters are pretty much restricted to a few bus stops.

I think that you guys should boycott the PPV so that the UFC:

1. Never put together such a poor card again.

2. Don’t charge for something that was originally advertised in the States as free.

3. Never, ever, takes its fans for granted again.

I feel like a sucker for buying tickets for what should have been a title event, according to Dana.

I spoke to soon spida. I was thinking you, me, and tommy could meet at the hooters at 436 in casselberry and watch this, but the Gators Manager here in Lake Mary said as a company they werent going to corporately paying for an event at 3pm. I doubt Hooters with either, so if the franchises dont get a corporate discount, many wont have it. This is smelling ugly for the UFC.

TBH I hope they get soaked on this show. It really is an insult to fans and worse to those in Ireland who were really looking for a competitive set of fights.
I REALLY want to know the whole story behind SpikeTV. My guess is that the show would be too costly to host and they just pulled out..lesser fight card and expensive makes me believe they figured 72 was a dud to start with.

I agree with Noel. They can salvage this sinking ship, at least from a p/r perspective, by lowering the ppv price. Say $20 instead of the usual $40. There is no way this card is worth $40.

Im always interested in the match-ups and whos gonna win. I guess i buy into the hype to much. But because im bummed that its PPV now im not gonna pay for it. I’ll just catch it later and check out the event results online. Dont get me wrong i like MMA alot and think its cool that others will buy this PPV ufc72 to support MMA or whatever. I like football and baseball alot to but if i had to pay 40$ to watch a game i think id find something a little easier on the wallet to watch. Now im not saying i never buy The PPV events cuz i do i guess im just whining cuz i thought it was gonna be free and then they take it away lol.

Yeah I am in full agreement. Does anyone know the UFC’s email address to complain. I sent an email saying these complaints to the Public relations department or something. It’s one thing to give us a free card that blows it’s another to try to charge 44 dollars for f’d up card. I know they like Rich Franklin because he was a teacher, bright smart and WHite, but who gives a S^*t about him as a fighter. My buddies and I have gotten every pay per view for the last two years I believe except that bogus USA vs. Canada and the one where rich got his ass kicked by Anderson Silva. The UFC is going way too WWE. They are hyping the hell out of Rampage. He was washed up in Pride and got his ass kicked too bad so he came over to a two bit organization which the UFC bought….man get it together UFC….
