Yah I read that earlier. I really hope they get rid of the ban and let the UFC in. They seem to want to do it, I mean 22 other states have so they should follow in line!

I can’t possibly wait. A UFC card close enough to drive to. Have a show the night before a daytime Bears game and Chicago could have a great 1-2 draw for sports fans.

I love to see the UFC spreading through out the states and globe..in bigger venues everytime around. We as fans are witnessing a new era emerging in combat sports and I love every moment, every legal battle won, every critic who then becomes a believer. I’ve been following this since the UFC was a fetus. I’m thrilled to know the UFC will be in Chicago. Personally my biggest dream as fan is for the UFC to make it to Madison Square Garden, New York City. That is the day that no one, no how, no way can stop MMA from being MMA in the grandest sports arenas in the world…UFC @ MSG coming soon!!

That would be so awesome. I don’t understand why they haven’t been here though. I go to MMA fights all the time at the UIC pavillion and other spots around town. What’s the difference with those smaller shows and the UFC?

I think elbows are illegal in Illinois, I go to the local shows in Moline and they cant use elbows. I went to Ohio for UFC 68 and it was nutz I would love to catch an event in Chicago

This would be great for the UFC if they can establish a MMA event in the great city of Chicago. I agree Arlovski vs Couture/Gonzaga would definately blow the roof off the building. I love when fighters fight in their own city it really gets the fans hyped. i don’t really see that happening though not in Chicago anyways. but if it does i hope i can sneak down there to witness it first hand.

Yeah but a lot of the smaller no name shows like that water it down a bit, it’s mainly just the big leagues, or UFC rather, that has ever allowed elbows, so it dosnt neccesarily mean Illinois dosnt allow them.

If I understand the history correctly a lot of the reaosn that the UFC cant come to certain places, like Chicago, is because back in the “dark early days” the UFC had an out right ban specifically against it because a lot of people as one congressman was directly quoted “its nothing more then human cock fighting.” So with the videos of early UFC footage and people with strong ties, UFC could be banned without much argueement.

Now as everyone on this site knows UFC was bought, ligit rules where put in place and its no longer viewed by too many as a barstool fight inside of a cage. So these bans that were put in place specifically against the UFC are now being reversed and lifted.

AA vs Couture/Gonzaga would be amazing, especially if as an undercard you throw in Bonnar in his first return match against basically anyone, it would make for a hell of a show and certinally sell a whole lot more then a Blackhawks game! (sorry had to take a shot, the last time I saw that place on TV it looked like a ghost town)

its great for the ufc go to all these cities but i dont think any crowd will beat that ohio crowd when i was there i been to fights in vegas but the ohio crowd was crazy the thing is its a better atmosphere in vegas cause you get to meet more fighters and your closer to the action no matter where you sit it kinds sucks that they are probably gonna go to just big arenas it just means more money out of your pocket to sit closer

I dont know why Mania hasnt done a story on this. How many of you guys have heard:

The Pride sale is NOT final! No assets as of yet have changed hands. The deal was supposed to complete on May 1. The UFC’s head lawyer was supposed to take over on an interim basis. He flew to Japan with family and about a week later flew back. Sakikabara then flew to LV for a meeting with the Fertitta’s. That’s all I got so far.

http://www.fightopinion.com/2007/05/08/source-pride-assets-allegedly-not-sold-to-ufc-yet/

Read that story, for some of us this is utter disillusionment.

I think its awesome that the UFC is making it’s way around the U.S., even around the globe. It’s just kind of making a statement, but other than that fact, I dont really care cause I dont live near Chicago and can’t go, :(

At this point MTUFC, it don’t matter as much anyway. With all the fighters jumpin ship lately, pretty soon we wont need a “superbowl”, and wont need them to own PrideFC.

I hope not, man. I just love Pride. The ring, the announcers, the show, the callout when the Bushido starts, the tourneys, no elbows but soccer kicks and knees to the head, I love it all. I just want the deal to be done, so the fighters can choose where to go. It’s taking so f$cking long that fighters are jumping ship. That’s why you see Fedor in Bodog, Aoki and Mach in DEEP, etc.

I dunno, pretty soon Dana will probably have the kicks in UFC as well. AND the elbows. It will all be into rolled into one. I have no prob with pride, its just like I have been sayin, weather it be Pride, or UFC, just put all the best into one, so we don’t have to wait for some “special” event to wathc them compete.

wow! i dont know how to feel about this one. i personally was hoping that it was true, only to see the best fight the best and all the dream matchups, to many to list. if it is true and the buyout stands maybee dana can find a way to incorporate things that make both orgs special. i like the elbows and the production value of ufc ppvs but love the idea of knees to a downed opponent and the idea of open wieght gps and gpxs in general. just the idea of tournament style fights gets me excited. kinda like the old days in the ufc.

Dana white has already said he’s not a big fan of the soccer style kicks and knees to the head and looks like he’s determined to put everything under UFC rules.

Not when I heard him. He wants knees to the head.

MTUFC, You are of the mark on several points. Fedor was always going to fight in Bodog. He has however indicated strongly that he will be back in Pride/UFC. Deep is nothing but a feeder for bigger promotions anyway. Most of all, Pride is either Zuffa’s Pride or nothing. If Zuffa backs out Pride is totally done. What makes you think otherwise?

Your pretty much right Rollo. Fedor was offered something from Bodog, and Pride is different than UFC in that there contracts are not exclusive, Dana White has already said he wants to change that. I agree, pride is DONE piece, without Zuffa, there last couple months by themselves has proven that I think.
And yeah, my bad, Dana dosnt like the kicks, don’t think that will be incorporated any time soon, but the knees I think will be, they are working on that right now.

I saw round three as Corey’s. He was the aggressor. Em just sat back. He shoulda either taken the dude down or kept kicking that front left leg. Why he didnt I have no idea.

Legitament. This arcticle was well said. Although we lose a little bit of what was Pride, does that matter? Are we in this for the organization that is Pride? Or for the sport of MMA. Although this might be a step down for Pride, it definently was a step up for MMA, I don’t know how you can’t be happy about this.
