matt lindland to fight in ufc
UFC welterweight fighter Josh Burkman and former UFC middleweight slugger Phil Baroni got into a fight over the weekend at a club in Huntington Beach, California, according to FiveOuncesOfPain.com.

Here’s the account from “The People’s Warrior:”

“I think Phil is whacked out bro. We were dancing up by the table with about 25 people in the same area… I got bumped into his girlfriend i guess… phil tapped me on the sholder and asked if I grabbed his girlfriends ass… I said no i got bumped into her. Then he tapped me again, i said no… then he did it a 3rd time and I told him not to touch me again… then he raged and tried to smack me over his agent Ken Pavia… then he got hit about 10 times!!… I thought it was over, and while i was telling Tito what happened Phil popped up from behind me like a jack in the box and blindsided me!… what a chump! next thing I know my brother was beating his ass, then tito grabbed my brother and I got in a couple more shots!… lol!!! that the jist of it, Phil needs to relax he’s a little nuts. Anyways outside I tried to apologize to him and shake his hand but he faked the handshake and tried to hit me again… He was to slow! haha, I guess he’s not over it!.”

Burkman is scheduled to fight Karo Parisyan at UFC 71 on May 26 — a little more than three weeks away.

Not the best time for the contestant on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 2 to be getting into bar room brawls — much less be in a bar.

However, he appears to have escaped the melee uninjured.

It’ll be interesting if he can duplicate that feat at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, later this month.

Man, this isnt the first time Burkman has caused trouble and gotten other people mad at him. Same kinda thing against Jeremy Horn, whatever he did, Horn hated him and spite on him after the match. Think taht tells something about Burkman, plus, he hangs out with Tito. I don’t know how Baroni didn’t kill him. Must have been drunk.
Having said that I don’t think he will be able to handle Karo, Karo is very strong, and in my opinion a level above Fitch right now. Karo all the way.

this karo fight is the biggest of his career if you ask me and he shouldn’t even be at a bar, he should be focusing on figuring out how to not get thrown around by karo, i guess the fights still almost a month away so maybe this was his last party night before he hit the training real hard for a couple of weeks, but its a funny story none the less and baroni sounds like an asshole, but we didn’t hear his side of it so who knows…but seriously c’mon burkman, a lot of us are counting on you to put on a good show on a night with not a lot of big fights, i hope you bring the A game at 71…

Great training Burkman! This is one of the biggest fights in his career and hes out partying (dancing haha) three weeks before? Im all about having some down time during training and relaxing but being out with Tinna (Tito & Jenna) and getting in fights isnt recommended I bet (even though he didnt start it, he still kept punching him by his description)… I really did like Burkman but the more and more I hear about him out of the octagon the more and more I think of Matt Hughes, and thats not great company to be in personalty wise.

I blame that little troll agent of theirs for this bullshit.

He has stolen clients from other managers, and encourages this
ridiculous behavior with the fighters getting drunk out of their minds with strippers and hangers on.

If the police and DA in Miami Dade find out Baroni was in another fight it may affect his court case in Miami where he had a beef with two guys who also pinched his GF’s ass.

Is her ass that great?

Ken Pavia is awful for the sport.

Things like this are giving American MMA a black eye.
This type of behavior does not happen in Japan.

It sounds as if all parties involved have a lot of
insecurities and a great deal of growing up today.

That Baroni sounds like a complete arse,I hate jealous people who are possesive over their girlfriends,I get trouble with exactly that type almost every weekend.
As for Burkman hanging out in a bar with Tito,he didnt actualy say he was drinking did he?I mean some people can go to a bar and drink nothing but iced water, they are a very rare breed but they do exsist, its not a myth.

Look, all fighters have issues, thats what makes them fighters. Lee Murray and Tito fought in London b4 Murray landed in Prison for armed robbery. You can’t tell me Tank never got into a bar brawl. if mma fighters want to be recognized as professional athletes that rival the major american sports, they gotta stop this shit! the public that isn’t farmiliar with mma, who ufc is trying to attract, already views these guys as quick tempered bar room brawlers. when boxers fight, they don’t drink, have sex, or smoke weed before their fights. mma fighters have to take a page out of their books.
dana should put his foot down, it will benefit the ufc in the future if he does.

Burkman is lucky he didn’t run into Fitch at the bar….He probably wouldn’t be fighting Karo anymore. Don’t understand why UFC spoonfeeds Burkman with a televised fight when the guy hasn’t proved himself except for stupid bar fights for publicity. There are many more deserving fighters in the welterweight division who deserve this fight more that Burkman.

Just to clear some things up, I think the reason why most people are sticking to baroni’s side is because burkmann has a history of starting shit and then making up his own story about it. Jeremy Horn, a legend-to-be and very classy guy, spit on Burkmann after he choked him out. why? Burkmann challenged Horn to a barfight weeks prior and then spit on Horn’s gf when he refused.

I find it very easy to believe that Burkmann started the whole exchange and then lied about how his brother beat Baroni’s ass. If Baroni can KO professional fighters he would have no problem with an average joe.

Regardless of who started what, he’s an imbecile for even getting involved in that situation. What if someone had taken Baroni’s side at the bar and knocked Burkman on the head with a bottle? No more Karo fight, no more paycheck. And serious second thoughts from the UFC (one would hope) about how serious Burkman is about his chosen profession. Anyway, I agree with many above that the story is most likely bullshit…at least the way it has been told by Burkman. I also agree that he doesn’t seem to be taking Karo very seriously. If that is true, Karo will pick him apart. He should, anyway.

I met Burkman a while back after that fight with Horn and heard the whole story. There was a scuffle before the fight even happened and Burkman attempted to spit on horn, but spit on his girlfriend/or wife instead. Well safe to say, Horn let that motivate him to a 42 second chokeout of Burkman, and when all was said and done Burkman was out cold with some spit on his face.

Either JB was drinking at the bar or is just plain stupid. Imagine a hand injury just before the biggest fight of his career. Even a compression cut would be a liability only a month out.
Just mentioning it in an interview shows his mindset.

Josh, Phil, and others were part of an autograph siging last saturday in Hunginton Beach, Ca. Phil was doing a little sparring during the session. He seemed annoyed at one guy that was keeping time, as he was trying to talk to Phils girlfriend. I got to meet both guys, Josh was siging autographs, and taking pics too. I heard them mention going to dinner afterwards. I guess a little too much drinking eh! Oh, DA Spida was there to, so was Jackson, Salavery, Hector Ramirez, Dean Lister, and some other guys I didnt know. We had a blast. Oh, Tito was also there, but no Jenna. Hey, say what you want about Tito, but the dude got my respect. The siging was over at 5, Tito said that he would finish up the entire line. He came out and was true to his word. We got a pic with him, it was pretty cool of him to stay for the fans.

hey.. everyone.. I just needed to chime in a bit on this one. I’m just wanting to tell everyone exactly what happened. I was there, and Josh is my good friend. Yes, this is the biggest fight of his life and he knows this. He’s not doing anything stupid or drinking. He’s 110% dedicated to this right now and wouldn’t jeapordize this. Why doesn’t everyone here try training their asses of for 2-3 months. It’s hard work. and everyone needs a little time to just go out.. Just because someones out doesn’t mean their drinking or being foolish about it. He drank water.. He hardly ever even drinks alcohol in the first place, let alone right now. Phil is an asshole. Everyone knows this. Josh isn’t the type of guy who’s gonna go and just pinch some guys girlfriends ass. That’s not him. He’s go much more respect for people than that.

Phil was just being a hard ass trying to start shit.. Phils problem right now is that he’s not getting any recognition and he’s a bit jealous of Josh. He even admitted that to me that night. So, he’s just trying to get some more spotlight on himslef.

Yes Jered did hop in there and start whooping Phils ass too. Jered is Josh’s brother.. You need to understand that the burkman brothers are about as tight as anyone could ever get. They’re best of friends and will stand up no matter what for eachother.

It’s hard once you get to a point where all these fighters are. You have things floating around about you, what’s real, what’s not real. So. I just wanted to let everyone know what really happened and that Josh isn’t that way at all. He’s a classy guy…
