Top welterweight contender and Octagon veteran Jon Fitch (13-2) is tentatively scheduled to face relative UFC newcomer Roan Carneiro (11-5) at UFC Fight Night 10, according to UFCmania source.
It’s important to note that no bout agreements have been signed and it is still considered unofficial.
Fitch is fresh off a submission victory over Luigi Fioravanti at UFC 68 last month. During his in-ring post-fight interview, the low-key Fitch uncharacteristically called out Karo Parisyan — not because he doesn’t like him but because he wants to face the cream of the crop in the division.
UFC matchmaker Joe Silva and the UFC brain trust decided to award Josh Burkman with that opportunity instead — a fighter Fitch wiped out via rear naked choke back at UFC Fight Night 4.
Carneiro — nicknamed “Jucao” — defeated Rich Clementi via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 9 earlier this month in his UFC debut. It wasn’t the biggest test of his ability; however, he has been in it with top-level talent such as UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva and Ryo Chonan (both losses).
And Carneiro is going to need to tap into those experiences if he wants to get past an animal like Fitch, who is slowly — and quietly — racking up quite a hit list in the UFC 170-pound weight class.
Hopefully, we’ve got some big news on the way regarding this event. I’m still waiting on some things to come through, but it looks like a major UFCmania announcement is on the horizon.
Stick around.

I love how Fitch absolutely owned Burkman but still gets put behind him in line for a title contention fight. Guess he should have signed up for the show. Hopefully we get to see this fight.

Fitch was signed up for TUF season 1, they called him as he was getting ready to board the plane and told him he was cut.
Against my better judgement, I rolled with MMA weekly on this one. I heard word it was the TUF 5 Finale over the weekend, and it looks like now MMA weekly has amended its initial announcement.
glad he’s not fighting diego like everyone was calling for, and i don’t think burkman fighting karo is him being in higher contention for the title, the ww title picture is all mapped up for a while now and fitch just needs to keep racking up wins no matter who he fights and in a year or two the ufc will have to give him his shot, there is no way if fitch keeps winning and burkman keeps winning that burkman will get a title shot first, no way…

For all of Dana White’s bluster, they would never lock Fitch in a cage with Sanchez coming off a loss — he would potentially lose. That can’t happen with the golden boy.
Fitch is legit, and this is the UFC’s way of making sure he’s marketed on a national level. And on a Penn-Pulver card, they might make up for a year’s worth of mistakes when it comes to Fitch.
Fitch is an animal and he will devour Roan. But I saw this on the UG and Ive been waiting for mania to post a Fitch story.
Here’s his KO loss to Gouveia years ago:

Not trying to bash the kid, but when it’s almost four years since a dude lost in MMA, I went digging for something to prove he bleeds red … or sleeps like Mirko ;).
true that, i saw fitch fight hironaka at 64 and then couldn’t believe the fiorivanti fight didn’t get shown, your right that the tuf 5 finale would be a nice place for him to get showcased, that card needed another big name and fitch is perfect, i didn’t think there was much chance of him fighting diego, i guess i was just a little nervous as a diego fan, but your right no way he can lose two in a row
gouveia fights at 205 now and fitch at 170 so he was a little out of his weight class in that one
i wish in that 411 interview they would have asked him if he would ever fight koscheck or swick or anyone of his training partners if it meant fighting for a title…
Dude are you serious? Why don’t they put him up against Sanchez?
Fitch vs Obscurity…. rematch #8.
Seriously this guy must have fucked Dana White’s wife or smething cause he never gets a chance.

Fitch was asked tht in an interview ages ago, he said if you want the belt that bad there are other organisations.
Man i wish Fitch would get the oppenents he wants. Maybe he should do a GSP and go on his knees.
Im with you guys on this one, Fitch needs to be tested… put him on prime time against a hardcore fighter, not an undercard. His boringest fight is still better then the last two AA fights..
It’s sad I haven’t gotten to see more of his fights. I wonder if it’s the personality thing. A guy like Leban gets every fight shown because of his mouth, and the guy who hasn’t lost a fight in five years gets no air time. It would appear maybe this is all about marketing, money, and ratings.
soo i guess it would be bad if diego lossed 2 in a row…..if Fitch doesnt get a contender….id like to see him fight Joslin…there was contrversy in the first fight, so id atleast like to see him redeem himself there

leban’s fights get shown because he’s exciting and fights to win and not like a pussy, i’m not saying fitch is a pussy or not exciting, but win or lose chris leban is an exciting fighter and thats why they show his fights, bad comparison

i’m not saying he shouldn’t fight someone like sanchez, i’m just saying i’m glad he’s not fighting sanchez…
Spida do you not think he’s ready for Sanchez?
oh no, i think he’s ready, i’m just a big fan of diego and that fight would scare me something awful, i’m all about jon fitch i think he’s the man, i just don’t want the potential of my boy diego losing two in a row

I hear ya.. I think Fitch has the tools. Diego needs some confidence building time, it could result in another loss.
