ufc 73 sean sherk vs hermes franca

“… I’ve seen Hermes fight a few times, and every time I see him fight it’s the same thing. He puts it all on the line, he hits hard from what I hear. He pushes the pace and is a real good jiu-jitsu guy, so I think he brings a lot and is a threat in every position he’s in. I think it’s just going to be a great fight between the two of us.”

– UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk talks about his upcoming bout with Hermes Franca at UFC 73, as well as beating boxing champion Floyd Mayweather in less than a minute in a mixed martial arts bout during an interview with RandomSpeak.com.

hopefully Sherk doesn’t take this guy lightly, If he does we will have another shocker in Franca being the Lightweight champ. Actually I don’t think odds on that one are going to be too far apart, but Sherk will definetly be the favorite. Franca has alot to offer. Based on this comment it seems like Sherk repects him and will prepare well.

I completely agree. I like Sherk, but, in my opinion, Franca is going to take it. I think he’ll have an answer for anything Sherk has for him.

I plan on making the trek up to Sacramento to see it in person, although I remember seeing rumors awhile back that this fight was going to be pushed back to UFC 74. I guess they changed their minds.

i think fraca is a good fighter but overrated a little bit and should be exposed by a sean sherk at the top of his game, i thought spencer fisher if he was completely healthy would have been able to beat hermes, so if sherk shows up in top form like he usually does, and everyone knows he’s had enough time, sherk should be able to control this fight, he just needs to watch out for franca’s wild hard punches, if he gets caught we might have a new champ, but i’m picking sherk in a unanimous dec. or hermes might get tired and get caught in a sub of some kind around round 4 or 5…

I think Sean is to strong on for Franca to handle him once it goes to the ground. Anybody who is smaller than, yet takes hughes all the way to a desceion, is a beast. I think Hermes will be overwhelmed. GnP!!!

I hope Sherk gets destroyed in this fight and retires!

I’m lookin forward to finaly seeing sherk again. I think he’s gonna go on a rampage now that he’s healthy. But with the way things have been goin? Franca could be the man to upset him

Was Spencer Fisher hurt during his fight with Franca? I didn’t know that. What were the circumstances?

Jamie Varner took Franca does with ease multiple times in their fight, he just wasn’t able to keep him down. Franca’s best opportunity is open a cut on Sherk since he’s a bleeder. That’s his only chance IMO. I see it as Sherk (50-45) x all three judges. I’ll still be rooting for Hermes.

I think it will be a great fight and that Hermes will pull and upset. He always puts all of his Heart into every fight.

This fight will be a very good fight on a night that is shaping up to be a great card. I mean heavyweight and lightweight title fights both on the same night with two even matches, like this is awesome!

Btw just a little note to former WWE fans like myself, I was reading threw the interview with Shrek and apparently Brock Lesnar is training at the same place he trains and is coming up on his first professional fight slated to take place in K-1.

For anyone who knows Brock and his scary size (he weighs in at 265, probably cuts to make it, and is all muscle) and his college wrestling highlights, a guy like that who, if he has worked immensly on his stand-up game, could go far. It will just be intresting to see if he ever makes it to the UFC and if all those what if’s come true, then it could be another addition to a heavyweight divison that is now starting too look a little scary. All the UFC has to do now is somehow lure Fedor over and it will be great!

Sherk should come out on top in this fight, assuming he doen’t get stopped by a cut. No disrespect to Franca, I just see Sherk dominating him with strength and the good ol’ ground and pound.
Franca’s a tough cat though, and deserving of this shot. His fight with Fisher was excellent, he definitely won that one. I was really impressed with his power. I thought he was gonna knock Fisher out earlier than he actually did.

good interview i think sherk will smother franca franca wont be able to sub him his limbs are to short and strong francas best chance in my mind is a KO (wont happen) or maybe a choke i could see that happening more like a guil or maybe somehow get a rear naked

Franca is good but I doubt he can handle the strength of sherk. Lets face it sherk is like a 170 or 180 lb short guy cutting weight to make 155

Both guys at the top of there game, not making mistakes, I give the nod to sherk, kinda close though but I think sherk has this one.

The only thing exciting about Sherk is seeing how much blood he can lose and not pass out. I hope Hermes wins so we can have an exciting LW champ, and other one who barely can speak english.

Franca has heavy hands and likes to throw knees when fighters go for the take down so i don’t think this will be one sided as everyone thinks.

Sherk is pretty exciting if you ask me, cardio is always good so he is alwasy pushin pace. That is one thing I think Hermes will have trouble with, Sherk’s pace and cardio in the later rounds. Sherk is always fast past, is always landin awsome takedowns, I’m lookin forward to watching him fight after so long. Its about time the lightweight division makes some more progress

This is shaping up to be a pretty good fight card then. You got a LW title match. Anderson Silva fights Nathan on this card as well, and Tito and Rashad. Im looking forwad to this one.

MTUFC- Normally I aggree with yah. but not this time. I really enjoy watching Sherk fight. He always pushes the pace, and has takes punishment pretty good in a fight. I would not say that he is best of the best, but he is bar far worthy of the title. I am unsure about Franca’s ability to go the distance with a guy like Sherk. Sherk seems to have excellent condition. I it ends quick I say its Franca, but if it goes the distance I give it to Sherk.

As far as the guy about Brock Lesnar, I have never seen him in WWE, (never cared to watch it mind you), but I do know him from the Minnesota Vikings. I also heard that he has a contract with K-1. It will be someone I will keep my eye on. I just hope is nothing like Sapp.

Later

i’m pretty sure he had a knee problem before that fight, i don’t remember all the way, but i remember hearing he wasn’t gonna fight at the last minute and then decided to fight anyway, it might not have been a knee, but i’m thinking thats what it was, joe rogan kept saying it throughout the fight too…

My money is on Sherk. But again, it’s MMA and nobody can say that a lucky punch can’t end the fight, just ask my boy GSP. Franca is good but not at the same level as Sherk. The muscle shark ground and pound 101 all the way.

This card is really shaping up.
If it stays standing, I like Hermes.
If the Muscle Sharks gets the top, controls the hips…it will be a sea of red mixed with whichever color Franca’s hair is that night.
