UFC 70: “Nations Collide” is officially in the books.
But, it hasn’t aired on Spike television just yet.
Therefore, if you don’t want to find out the results before they happen, I suggest turning off the computer.
I can’t guarantee that commenters won’t comment on the results of the fights before they air on television.
In this post, we’re just going to give some quick results and recaps of the main card bouts, as well as the main event between Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and Gabriel Gonzaga.
Here we go:
Gabriel Gonzaga defeats Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic via knockout (head kick) in round one
Fight recap: Speechless.
Andrei Arlovski defeats Fabricio Werdum via unanimous decision
Michael Bisping defeats Elvis Sinosic via technical knockout (strikes) in round two
Fight recap: With all the pressure on his shoulders, Bisping delivered. It looked like Sinosic slept with Bisping’s wife the way the hometown favorite came out swinging. In the first round, “The Count” beat the hell out of Sinosic from inside his guard. His ground and pound was downright vicious — Bisping reigned downed relentless punches for which Sinosic had no real answer. In fact, he was lucky to escape round one breathing. “The King of Rock and Rumble” did catch Bisping with a nice knee to the chin that dropped the Liverpool native to start round two, but he didn’t have the gas to finish the job. Bisping recovered — defending a nice kimura attempt — and pounded his way to a stoppage. Bisping looked good. And Sinosic, well, looked like Sinosic. He’s a gamer, but just doesn’t have the talent to compete with the top dogs at 205 in the Octagon. Big surprise, right?
Terry Etim defeats Matt Grice via submission (guillotine choke) in round one
Fight recap: Etim comes out and rocks Grice early. However, the former state champion wrestler quickly gets on top of the hometown native after the Brit can’t capitalize on the overhand right. Grice has some laser punching inside Etim’s guard, bloodying the lanky 155-pounder with heavy punches and elbows. Etim finally realizes he’s taking too much punishment and gets to his feet, trapping Grice in a standing guillotine choke. Grice escapes, but is clearly affected from the lack of oxygen. Etim gets him in another guillotine choke — this time from his back — and Grice takes an early nap. Etim looked nice when he wasn’t getting pounded. Anf for the most part, so did Grice. It was a good fight — lots of action.
Cheick Kongo defeats Assuerio Silva via majority decision
Fight recap: Good lord Kongo is enormous. Too bad a junior varsity wrestler can take him down. Silva was able to do just that, but when he had him on the ground he did absolutely nothing. Kongo strafed Silva with blistering kicks and punches, leaving the Brazilian no other option but to cover up and go for the takedowns. He more or less took Kongo down at will, but his inability to do anything from side control — or even on top — resulted in a loss. Silva took some punishment and showed that he’s a gamer — too bad he’s 0-3 in the Octagon. Kongo looked fantastic on his feet in a fight that was nothing to write home about.

I think he’s going to update them as the event happens on Spike.
they are showing a lot of undercard fights tonight
dudes,
These results are displayed all over sherdog. If you are interested.
I am so not interested in the final results, watching them now on Spike.
How damn funny was Matt Serra…. I look forward to punching him in the face, i feel like a winner already……
AAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAH!!!!
Talk about long ass commercials. Dragging it out that is for sure. I would rather pay.

Yes, and they are displayed on this site. This post, however, is designed for fans who didn’t want to see the LIVE results.
ya, i love this mania, i was fighting the urge to spoil it all night, now i am enjoying watching it
J.
Matt Serra seems like a stand-up guy but he comes off too emotional. Hughes is going to defeat him.

Sorry, my bad. I will shut it, my pie hole that is, now.

man i am sure glad this event was free cause it has been a total dude, the most exciting thing during this broadcast so far has been the girls gone wild commercials and the condom depot.com tshirst arlovski was wearing
correction i meant to say dud
Joe Rogan is getting a large head. I wish he would stop shitting on the fighters during fights. It doesn’t help the broadcast. It actually takes away from the event and sport when he does that.
Joe: Didn’t your mother tell you that you should say nothing if you can’t find something nice or good to say? Come on man. You never shit on your job or your co-workers on tape. My son, he is three, knows not to bite the hand.

Anybody else get the impression that the fix was in on the Bisping fight? A better camera angle would have explained to me why Elvis let go of that vicious kimora.
Also, didn’t Cro-Cop look really soft and small tonight? I knew when he walked into the ring he was going to lose.
Cage. Cage. Cage. I should have said cage! Not ring. Sorry!
holy shit cro cop, that ankle has to be broken, i’m so disappointed in him, he didn’t even throw a punch, and why didn’t they show the machida fight???
Cro Cop is still ‘the scariest guy to ever come out with Duran Duran music’ I love Rogan
wow,
Randy is going to have his hands full with Gonzaga
Joe messed the whole post-fight interview up.
I wanted “Cro Cop” to punch him in the head.
Overall, i would rate the event a 3 ou of 5, maybe.
Anyone else care to comment?
So out of 5-poins, with 1 being I fell to sleep during the event and 5 being the best UFC you have seen to date. How would you rate this UFC event?
Counsel
Sorry folks.
I should have written points not poins. Too many, maybe not enough, Molson Canadian.
This card didnt live up to its potential at all. AA v Werdum was like Diego v Kos. No Machida fight. How the hell do Cheick and Assuerio go the distance? Bisping looked like crap really against the tomato can Elvis, at easily could have lost that fight. Only thing was the main event, and was that some shit or what. 3 outta 5, only because of CC v GG.
I thought CroCop’s neck was broken when Gonzaga’s foot went across his head.
Does anyone know if Cro Cop is hurt?
I would rate this event as a 3.5 . Not the best ever but very good. Iwouldve surely payed the 40 bucks to see this event. Icouldnt believe my freakin eyes! Gonzaga beat Cro Cop at his own game. This would be like Bj Penn slamming around Matt Hughes for 3 rounds. The Natural definitely has his work cut out for him. Couture was right all along!
Does anyone know if Cro Cop is hurt?
is that a serious question?
I can’t believe what I saw…I can’t believe Cro Cop lost this fight…WoW I love this sport…This is why I don’t bet on fights…This month has been crazy…
score two big hw fights for the ufc tonight against pride guys, i’m more shocked over this fight than the serra fight, this is border line depressing, it looks like he’s gonna be out for a long time with some leg problems and he was knocked out for a while, thats not good for the brain, he might not fight ever again, herb should have never stood them up and then this shit might not have happened, damn what a weird feeling as a fan of mma…
i hope chuck isn’t next, please mma gods let chuck not be next…
Didn’t really know which way it was going to go.I thought if Gonzaga won it would be by submission,I guess CC got a taste of his own medicine.I still think CC is a great fighter and champion,he will be back for sure. Now it’s up to my man Randy Couture. It’s kinda funny he predicted a Gonzaga win and alot of you asshloes pretty much said he was scared and was playing head games, well you were wrong.I’ve always stood by Randy and i’ve said i’ll never count him out.He knows what this game is all about. So go ahead and say Gonzaga is going to destroy him.I know i’ll be there to tell all of you that you don’t know shit. Thanks and i’ll see u in August.

The only thing different is Penn is smaller than Hughes. Gonzaga is large and looks very strong. he was not one bit afraid of Cro Cop. He actually hunted him down.
Randy is the best source. His analysis is experience based and almost always spot on.
I say he should replace Rogan full time as soon as he stops fighting.

if i didn’t think cro cop might be dead i would of laughed at that question scary lookin KO
oh and 3 outta 5, counting commercials, 2 outta 5
anyway i’d rate the show a 2.5, the fights were for the most part boring, i liked the energy bisping had though and the grice etim fight was pretty good, kongo is a scary looking man, and cro cop looks like he should fight at 205, i know his record says otherwise, but damn he never looked like he had a chance against gonzaga, and i can’t help but think werdum looked like he is probably the better fighter, but got caught up in a shitty fight, and even if the machida fight sucked i still wanted to see it, 2.5
I was really looking forward to seeing Machida put on another clinic and show that he deserves a title shot. Why the fuck aren’t they showing him? This is the second time he has dominated someone and it never sees the light of day. They milked this card for all it was worth and it sucked. There is no way that the Congo fight was better than the Machida fight.
yeah way too many commercials, the asian business guy singing in the bathroom commercial is priceless, and i wonder how much ole joe francis paid to have girls gone wild shown 5 million times, oh yeah and condomdepot.com, can’t put a price on that either friends…
Matt Serra and Matt Hughes Next Coaches On TUF? Give me an EFFIN BREAK!!!!
I would have to say arloski sux’d tonight. The guy is aggro and did nothing…
The First fight of the night (French guy vs Brazilian) was alittle slow, the BJJ guy should have been all-over him (Conga) when he had him down but he just farted around doing nothing.
The little brit(Etim)was pretty good to watch. Now I wanna see him take on K-FLO.
Why did the Aussi drop the kimura??? He had him.
God I hate Bisping (I am always go for the underdog)
That was some scary kick… Its easy to see Crocop was expecting an uppercut or the likes and not a big ass boot to the head. You could see the worry on the refs face, wiping the sweat off… he just looked at the leg and thought ahhhhhh $hit.
I would have to say going into the “non-ppv event” it was worth every cent I didnt pay… I would give it a 2 1/2 out of 5.
I really wasnt “geared up or excited” about it to start with, but it has actually peaked my intrest in waiting to see someone smack Bisping (Forrest Griffin???)
Arlovski has to really be thinking now… Will they (UFC) put him vs Cro-cop as a punishment for such a poor fight or will Cro-cop get to hammer on Heath Herring…
Randy called it right, he is already playing head games with Gonzaga… By picking him to win and saying he knows what he will have to do to beat Gonzaga (Keep it on the ground).
Rogan does take the fun out of watching the fight, its bad enough that I know the fight that arlovski was in sucked but he doesnt have to repeat it over and over. I guess a win is a win and why open yourself to a loss by being too aggressive if you dont feel the time was right. And think everyone gives Koscheck a hard time, I would watch a few take downs any day to a game of cat and mouse.
All in all it wasnt a waste of time, the Mirko Flipovic fight will get lots of replays and sends a ripple out to the pride fighters…

Yeah what the hell is condom depot sponsoring Arlovski for? I guess they must have got word of his relationship with patricia and signed him to an immediate contract! lol

u aint kiddin……
Can anybody think of a time span in mma where this many superstrs were upset? Seriously, serra gsp, gabe and mirko silva and rich. These rank up with david and goliath, rocky and apollo and tyson and buster douglas. What next? Is Dana gonna knock the crap out of Tito?
all i know is that if arlovski is wearing that shirt he must be getting a ton of action
I called it Gonzaga wins 1st rd, Im still pissed they didnt show the machida heath fight
I didnt expect that kick and i still feel bad for cro cop, im just glad hes ok.
holy mackerel…
fantastic main fight (shocking, dramatic, unexpected, etc.). otherwise, the card was a 3 out of 5. I kept trying to will AA to really fight.
Can anybody think of a time span in mma where this many superstrs were upset? Seriously, serra gsp, gabe and mirko silva and rich. These rank up with david and goliath, rocky and apollo and tyson and buster douglas. What next? Is Dana gonna knock the crap out of Tito?
true,
If Chuck falls to Rampage the year of upsets will be complete.
Also, lets us not forget Diaz beat Gomi. Sure he smoked the herb before hand but we all know that did not help him in the fight. Even GSP beating Hughes the way he did was surprising?
I also really think diaz beating gomi was huge because anybody who could perform on that level while on mary jane should get a freakin medal!
Gonzaga winning wasn’t an upset, the shock was how he won. Arlovski (who I was rooting for) seemed to pull a Tim Sylvia or a Kos… got the first round and did jussst enough for the rest of rounds to get a decision. Was pretty pissed they hyped up the fight for Machida and Heath, and then never got to see a punch.
Whole new thought… what is with the whole idea of Hughes getting a title shot with Serra already. When you have Franklin who is going into a second fight (fought an actual contender first fight unlike Hughes) Now ya have Sylvia who has to wait forever for his chance for rematch (Gonzaga fights Couture then winner gets Arlovski). Sorry maybe it’s just me seems inconsistent.
Gonzaga shouldnt have been an upset he is a good fighter
Gonzaga shouldnt have been an upset he is a good fighter
true he is a good fighter but did he ever win a grand prix? Has he ever fought fighters like Big Nog or fedor or bob sapp? Absolutely not!But i do give mad props to gonzaga. he is for real.
i agree with counsel also about diaz beating gomi. diaz was probably only the 10th best ww in the ufc when he left. he lost a dec to riggs for cryin out loud and gomi was one of prides best pfp. no wonder pridefc folded so easy to the ufc like cc folded to gonzaga.
Cro Cop just got caught in the right spot with that sloppy kick. Gonzaga still deserves all the respect for this fight because well he won. Cro Cop I think would do a lot better in a rematch if they get around to one. Cro Cop just looked out of it really bad. He didn’t really even fight. His guard was pretty good so he wasn’t really getting hammered on the ground like some people have said. Yes elbows hurt, but they were really just deflected or softened by Cro Cop’s defense. Then he got up and got caught with his hands down and pop just like anyone if you get hit in the temple area you are out. The ankle and knee of Cro Cop looked pretty f’d up, but I really think it just looked bad. I am sure it will be sore, but nothing career threatening.
Anyways great job goes out to Gonzaga, but Randy is not going to just walk into a sloppy high kick. Experience will shine in the championship fight and then after a few fights Cro Cop will be back and hopefully get his shot. It would really be nice if he got a rematch with Gonzaga to decide his title chance again. Then if Gonzaga won again then it was really meant to be. Sort of like when Chuck beat Randy it was like what the? and then Chuck said hey look I’ll do that shit again. Tito and Ken, Andre and Tim, etc.
Glad it was free tonight, but that knock out will definitely be shown over and over again and will be on an awesome knock out DVD or something it was that good.

hey man the franklin Silva fight was not an upset at all. the other fights you mention were but not that one nobody is going to touch that middle wieght title for a long time cuz silva is one of the best and franklin SUCKS.
O yeah holy crap CRo Crop KTFO that crap was crazy never saw that coming
Gonzaga shouldnt have been an upset he is a good fighter
good point.
It is always hard to see through the media spin. If you watch Gonzaga’s other ufc fights, tonight’s result is less surprising. Again he like other non-English speaking ufc fighters has been often over looked. Can’t wait to see him again.
I hope Cro Cop didn’t get 350k for that fight. That would not be right even if it is perfectly legal.
Is Dana gonna knock the crap out of Tito?
They already showed that last week (tito vs dana). Do you want the spoiler? I’ll tell it so you won’t waste an hour watching dana work out for 8 weeks preparing for tito’s no show.
anyhow. I think the aussie lost the kamora against brisbane because he just got done taking such a farking beating from brisbane. I loved that 155 lb fight! And I am actually, uh, sad that cro cop lost via KO to the head. I really wanted to see randy and cro cop fight. Gonzaga vs coture? Is that a fight? Yawn. These past two ufc fight nights have been strange. What a really weird series of upsets.

I feel like Chuck is now doomed to lose. These upsets have been unreal. I keep thinking too many fighters have become too cocky or how else do you explain such a crop of serious upsets. Lidell won’t lose unless he loses focus. Since Rampage (does he really have to howl with chains around his neck) cleaned Lidells plate and asked for seconds in 2003, Lidell has been aching to avenge.
Someone explain the howl and chains entrance of Rampage. It really makes me want him to lose. Rampage makes MMA look like fake TNT wrestling.. what next? Will we see Randy Coture enter the octogon with white face paint, a body suit, and tassles tied around his elbows?
I also really think diaz beating gomi was huge because anybody who could perform on that level while on mary jane should get a freakin medal!
Weed hangs out in the system for a long time apparently, longer than the Columbian dancing powder I hear. Which is why I was shocked when Melvin G. tested positive for it. They should change the drug testing. Overturning fight results based on a positive drug test when weed is found is nonsense. The test should only be for performance enhancing drugs. The only thing weed enhances is you desire for for pop-corn, chips and toy story.
Diaz won the fight and he did it in fine style. Those who saw the fight know he won. Shit he was almost blind when he submitted Gomi. I would love to see him, Diaz, fight for the UFC title. It would be exciting.
He would not back-up, that is for sure.
good way for dana to shake up his heayweight division
Gonzaga shouldnt have been an upset he is a good fighter
…and he did his homework. That fight was textbook for him. OK, except for the high leg kick. That was just plain sick.
I would not be surprised if that was his last fight. There have been rumors that he is close to retiring. If he has a serious knee injury and is out for awhile he may never fight again. Only time will tell
MJ is one of the best pain killers around
That hit that Mirko took was SICK!!! It was scary to see how he crumpled like that… you know he was totally out immediately by how his leg buckled under him. Joe Rogan was right when he pointed out that there’s risk of a major knee &/or ankle injury from how he fell. (not to mention some serious potential for after effect brain damage from that kick to the head)
I hope Mirko is ok… that would suck to have it ruin his future in MMA from getting clocked like that.
I agree with some others that say the overall event didn’t meet the hype. I wanted to see the Machida/Heath fight… and it would have been nice if Arlovski & Bisping looked better in their fights. Bisping looked better than Arlovski, but I would have liked more action and better fights.
the over all event didn’t live up to the hype… but thats been the story as of late. however… the gonzaga-cro cop fight was amazing in my opinion. gonzaga came out strong with a look of desire in his eye and simply dominated from the beginning. funny how the man with “the most powerful” leg kicks got ko’d with probably the sickest leg kick to tha domepiece i’ve ever seen
was anyone else disgusted by all the girls gone wild commercials during the show. i was watching with my young daughter and i dont want her to see some dumbass slutty drunk college girls making out. i dont know if it was just my affiliate or what but it pissed me off. p.s. i dont want any shit about letting my daughter watch a “violent” sport, which i think is the most pure form of competition there is, she will be practicing jj or judo as soon as she’s old enough anyway.
“Does anyone know if Cro Cop is hurt?”
his not hurt 100%
That was probably the most devastating kick I’ve seen in a very long time, if not ever!! Like Joe Rogan said, it’s the type of kick Mirko does to other people… I was amazed that he would fall victim to a move he does regularly & so well.
I was shocked by the outcome of that fight, just like I was with G.S.P. & Matt Serra. (I have a whole conspiracy thoery about the 170 division, but I won’t put you all through it.
)
Mirko/Gonzaga lived up to my expectations, even if I wanted Cro-Cop to win so he & Randy could have what would have been an amazing fight. (imagine it - Randy’s takedowns/ground attack against Mirko’s striking… maybe later this year?)
I also liked the way Terry Etim looked in his win. It’s always good to see new faces that are worth watching.
I guess it’s just dumb luck or something that’s making these events not be what they could be. It’s not like the quality of the fighters is missing - it just looks like too many people have been having off nights that add up to underwhelming overall events.
Fighters like Arlovski, Bisping, G.S.P., Hughes, Silva, Sanchez, etc are great fighters… it sucks not to have them always be at their “A Game” level every time. It would be nice, but the odds are against it, I know.
BTW, anyone have the 411 on why the Machida fight didn’t go down?
I have to agree with Mike & Mirko’s music. I couldn’t believe he was using Duran Duran, even if the song title was “Wild Boys”. If any other fighter did that I’m sure I would have a few dozen jokes… but I don’t think I would say anything about Mirko being soft for playing Duran Duran as he came to fight. I sure hope he’s ok. I messed up my ankle like that from a Judo tournament and it hasn’t been the same since. I’m about ready to have a second operation to fix the aftermath of how badly I twisted it. I sure hope it doesn’t ruin Mirko’s future in MMA - that would really suck!!
Trust me guys you dont want to see Machide fight I was there…..the crowd boooed them the whole fight…i have seen more action in a french art film than that. it was complete shit.
Trust me guys you dont want to see Machide fight I was there…..the crowd boooed them the whole fight…i have seen more action in a french art film than that. it was complete shit.
What are you talking about? The fight was slow, very slow indeed. But the crowd did not boooed, most of the time they clapped to motivate the fighters (no luck there). The only good part of the fight as the last minute of the 3rd round. I really thought he’d finish Heath off.
cro cop sucks ass
Obviously Crocop is injured, but when somebody gets the specifics on what it was, how long he’ll be out, can you guys post that? Everyone is dieing to know.
This looks like this could be one of the worst injuries in MMA history, seeing as there have not been many.
Heavyweight is nuts now! Couture gets Gonzaga. Arlovski gets next. Remember Tim Silvia? He should get another shot soon. Nogiera just signed so he will have a fight or two before a title shot. Oh yeah… Brandon Vera. He’s an unbeaten rising star. By the time all these top contenders cycle through Chick Kongo might have some takedown defense and he’ll be ready for a shot next year.
Bisping looked like crap really against the tomato can Elvis
I’m wondering if you watched the same fight as I did. Because the one I saw Bisbing dominated the fight having it very close to being stopped in the first round then was caught with a knee and did an awesome job of recovering and avoiding a kamura and then reversing a very good BJJ fighter and finishing him off.
Also very nice for all those hardcore Pride fans who think they have all the best fighters and that UFC fighters are overated got to see two of their best go down today and realize that even the heavyweights in the UFC are as good if not better than Pride. And you can talk crap about Arlovski not being aggresive enough but really it was Werdum who even just layed on the ground and begged AA to jump into his guard.
Was the machida fight worse then AA and Werdum, i was impresed with bisping he looked good
yes it was worse…Machida said in his pre fight interview that it was going to be bloody???? you have to actually hit someone to make them bleed…he just kept kicking him in the leg for 2 and a half rounds. Heath did nothing at all the whole fight. Surprised me a lot the way he was talking before the fight and how he walked to the ring. He seemed really confident gonig it.
Machida was just way too quick for him and kept piling up the pouint with small shots all night. Heath must have known he lost the 1st 2 rounds and I expected him to go for broke in the last but still did nothing….Most disappointing fighter of the night though was David Lee…he just gave up…cant see him fighting in the UFC ever again.
cro cop sucks ass
How can u say CC sucks ass,he got ko’d,it happens. He’s still one of the best.I’m sure CC and Gonzaga will meet again.I know i’d love to see it.
in this game, when fighters have alot of footage on them it works against them, Anderson Sliva used it to smoke the Ace, Serra used it on GSP, GSP used it to beat Matt Hughes, couture used it to beat tim, lydell back in the day used it to beat ortiz and if you look at MMA that is the way it goes. Work every thing, get good cardio, and do you HOME WORK!!!!! = GREAT FREEKIN FIGHT…..
ps. I still think gsp was hit behind the head (trice) 1st, 2nd and 6th
By the time all these top contenders cycle through Chick Kongo might have some takedown defense and he’ll be ready for a shot next year.
Kongo’s only hole in his game is just what you stated. If he can gain the takedown defense along with the ability to stand up after a takedown, he will be challenging for the title & will remain in the top 5 HW of UFC if he reaches this level.
See the thing is, Mirko was probably training non-stop to work on takedown defense and what to do if taken down and less time on his strengths, so even before the fight, Mirko lost it.
But damn.. that was the hardest head kick I have ever seen.
4 out of 5.
The Arloski fight sucked….at least he apologized and gave reason for his cowardice (he was afraid of ground game). Booooooring. Arloski needs some sort of courage dose for any hope of seeing him do anything….is he afraid of hurting his “pretty” face? Someone flatten his nose please.
Etim vs. Grice was a classic fight with classic mistakes made, I was entertained.
The Bisping fight was a one sided beating (although Bisping almost got submitted, Elvis was too tired and beaten up to finish). that fight was good too.
For those of you who say Gonzaga (the “underdog”) got lucky watch the fight again. He changed that unexpected sledgehammer of a kick from a body shot to a head shot once he saw Cro Cop go for the body block.
Cro Cop was totally dominated from the opening and was countered well every step of the way. I do not know why they were stood up just as Gonzaga got CC up against the cage…the stand up was totally in CC’s favor.
The end of that fight will hit every knock out real. That was a powerful and fast knockout blow….it was thrilling! Thats the way to end a fight evening!
Forrest
Oh & btw, I dont think there is really an “upset” that took place with the GG win over CC. It’s definately the fact that he beat CC at his own game that has everyone in disbelief. Honestly, I’m a big CC fan & really wanted to see him win. I expected GG to give CC a really, really hard time in the process but I just “knew” CC would knock him out. I knew GG would get his time in to shine but just didnt think it wouldve started with CC.
It’s just crazy because when you look at GG’s past fights, depsite how well he performed, I’ve never seen him do anything so different that it could spell disaster for a top performer like CC. GG’s never displayed anything in his previous fights that CC has’nt already faced in other fighters he’s beaten. If anything I would’ve expected GG to win with an armbar. Anyway, GG’s in the spotlight now with such a HUGE win. Let’s hope he does something with this momentum & puts on a great fight against Couture.
Is it just me in that something about GG reminds me of Ricco Rodriquez?,,,,,,,just a thought

Good point I didn’t understand that all, they were both active, thre was no reason for that standup.
I wonder how Mirko’s leg is. It has to be an injury, his ankle was twisted 180 degrees. The reff even covered his face for a quick moment before he lifted his leg.

Thats the way to end a fight evening!

if you thought aa was so bad what about werdum. he did all the backing up. he was the new guy coming from big bad pride he should have been the one pressing the fight, trying to show that he belongs in the ufc. werdum was the reason this fight was so boring. like i said last night aa did fight not to lose but werdum fought not to get knocked out.

This was not a one time thing; AA fights have been dancing demonstrations in the past too (Arlovski vs Sylvia 3 was very painful to watch, yes?). There was plenty of blame for Werdum too. They both let the fans down. I only need to see just one more boring AA round to totally become disinterested in his fights.
Please UFC, give Arlovski someone who will force him to either let it hang out OR get the total spanking he has coming. A flattened nose is my ultimate dream, I think a bit or “Rocky” attitude would be the best improvement to his game.

agreed put someone in who is not afraid or intimidated by andre. i seriusly doudt it will be aa who receives tne spanking though. werdum looks like he could make LHW. then he could run from chuck or rasheed all night.
Andre seems to be content to be a “counter” puncher. While I was bored with the AA-Tim Sylvia 3rd fight, I was mainly mad at Andre not pressing the action. There is an unspoken rule: “draws” go to the champ, so I was frustrated with AA not pressing that fight, because I thought it was a mistake.
This fight I saw a little differently because he was pressing, but still committed to the counter punch. The first round he was getting nailed by some vicious strikes, they didn’t look to damage him much, but I think it reinforced the idea that he needed to be cautious.
But he had a great response to the boos of the crowd. All UFC fighters should watch it and see how to build a fan base. He apologized, explained why he was cautious, and promised to be more exciting the future. Those boos turned to cheers.
On another note, I thought Cro-cop looked soft and small at the start of the fight. He looked calm like he always does, but when I saw him I thought, “uh-huh”, he’s going to have a problem.
But I didn’t see a kick knocking him out, that’s for sure. And I don’t believe I’ve seen anybody as knocked out as he was. That was vicious.
I’m still not sure if the Bisping fight wasn’t fixed. I can’t understand why Elvis let go of the kimura and then just laid back and let Bisping wail on him. I know he was tired, but still, it looked awful suspicious.
The “uh-huh” should have been “uh-oh” in my previous post. I need to take a nap.
AA was trying to press the fight with a fleeing Werdum. He had no reason to apologize. And the Sylvia 3 fight, c’mon we all saw that, sylvia fought not to lose. It’s hard for AA to press the fight with someone with a bigger reach just counter punching all night.
Yeah, I think he pressed and got close, but he did pretty much counter punch. Not the best, but def. not the poor performance many are saying.
Does anyone believe AA improved his position with that win? He fought to not get taken down, he admitted as much in the ring post fight.
Where the hell the usually aggressive Werdum was is anybody’s guess.

aa may have fought not to get taken down but werdum fought not to get koed. even worse.
and by the way when is having a good sprawl and takedown defense considered to be fighting not to get taken down. isnt that the general idea when fighting a bjj black-belt. maybee cc should have fought not to get taken down.
Yes, I think some guys are not getting the point of fans frustration…..neither fighter made serious attempts to do damage to the other fighter.
Good takedown defense…nothing wrong with those moves. Plenty of standup fights are exciting.
The most Werdum was able to try was taunting AA to go to the ground. WTF??? At least try to take him down!!!
AA was certainly not trying to knock out his opponent. He was just interested in having 1 more point than his opponent. His strategy was a safe and boring bet. I am sure there were one or 2 combinations thrown by him but I cant remember a single one. If the fight was scheduled for 50 rounds AA might have been successful in knocking him out but the fights are only 3 rounds! At least try to knock him out!!!
