ufc rory singer vs jason macdonald
Rory Singer (11-6) has announced in the Underground Forum over at MMA.tv that he’ll be facing Jason MacDonald (18-8) at UFC 72 on June 16 in Belfast, Ireland.

Aside from having one of the worst nicknames in all of MMA (Version 2.5), Singer is a talented albeit inconsistent fighter who will always hold a special place in my heart for dismantling the ill-conceived and stomach churning “Team Dagger” with a knockout win over Solomon Hutcherson during the third season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Singer failed to make it to the finals but kept his spot on the roster with consecutive wins over Ross Pointon at The Ultimate Fighter 3 finale and Josh Haynes at UFC The Final Chapter. He came up short at UFC 66 however with a TKO loss against Yushin Okami in the third round.

He’s since rebounded with a win over Matt Masterson at Wild Bill’s Fight Night 8 (only in Georgia folks) and looks to have also improved his training camp after a recent affiliation with American Top Team.

No doubt he’ll have an uphill battle when he faces “The Athlete” who is certain to be looking for revenge after being quickly dispatched by former middleweight champion Rich Franklin back at UFC 68.

Prior to the Franklin loss MacDonald was on a six-fight winning streak specializing in the destruction of Ultimate Fighter alumni like Ed Herman at UFC The Final Chapter and Chris Leben at UFC 66.

Whether he can use that as a confidence booster against Singer or whether the Franklin loss still haunts him has yet to be determined.

I’m sorry but the worst nickname out there is Kenny “Ken Flo” Florian. He really put a lot of thought into that name.

I guess I try to picture a bunch of guys at the gym. It’s easy to yell “Yo KenFlo!” but can you imagine shouting across a crowded gym “Yo Version 2.5!”

Believe it or not the meglomaniac who runs this site actually call himself UFCmania outside of this blog. I’m all for getting into character but you know that belt Manny was running around with on TUF 5? Who do you think they got it from?

LOL @ Jesse

If Jmac loses this one he should quit and go back to being a prison guard

Jason is a monster at 185. His ground skills are crazy, but his stand up is slow and telegraphed. If he was quicker, he could potentially be a middleweight champ someday. I hope the Franklin loss gives him some drive to train on his stand up. One thing is for sure, he is in the right camp.

i want to see him fight kendell if he’s such a tuf killer, he keeps beating the guys that lose on that show, but lets see him fight a winner, it would be a badass fight and a good test for both…

Yeah, Mr. “TUF Killer” doesn’t mention the fact that he also got TKO’d by Kalib Starnes and choked out by Patrick Cote.

I think that Macdonald will win but if they stay standing Singer will take it cuz i think his stand up looked good in his last fight but Macdonald is bigger than Singer and the last time Singer fought a guy his size he got KO’d…but Macdonalds stand up looked like ASS in his last fight against Franklin hopefully he improved that because his arms are soooo god damn long for a middleweight so he should have that in his game plan every fight instead of looking for his ju jitsu to come through

Yushin Okami deserves a title shot before anyone right now but since silva is fighting marquardt, okami will probably get some stiff to fight or will dana put him in with someone tough for okami to lose because he wants all of his belts to be with guys who will help promote the UFC the most?

Grove will kick Mac’s ass. Did everyone see how good Kendall looked at that last event. Who cares if he beat Leben. You must know that Leben will lose alot the same way because he exposes his head to much on the ground and in the clinch. He relies way to much on his hands, but Anderson fixed that one. The Crippler needs to work more BJJ and submissions. Da Spyder will beat Mac. It would be a good fight to see Grove keep growing

Singer is a good fighter technicaly, but what about toughness? Guy has a bit of potential, top team can definately bring that out.

McDonald - Singer is a good matchup for both. McDonald is gonna come out with ball of fire because of the loss, then again so will Singer to make the statement he belongs in the UFC.

yea i agree Kendall Grove is looking better and better every time he fights so his training with team punishment is going great…but he still needs to fight a top 5-10 middleweight fighter so i think he needs at least 2 fights before a title shot if not more..

Geez, I have a hard time seeing Mac losing to Singer. Singer has improved a lot since TUF, but Mac is better. Losing to Franklin is on an entirely different level than fighting Singer.

Jason will clear this guy out inside of 3:00 minutes.

I don’t know what is wrong with Singer. He looks good, and I don’t care how that sounds, but that is it. Mark my words folks, Jason will win but submission. Wait, triangle choke.

Sorry that took so long to formulate.

both these guys lost to top level competition. i think rory with will because of the training he will get at American Top Team. plus he also trains with forrest griffin. i think singer by decision.
