I would rather see them do a standup fight in the octagon with a no takedown rule. Just trading blows with UFC santioned golves. I just want to see Dana fight someone. I dont care if its Layla Ali as his opponent, I just want to see him fight.
What a stupid waste of time, watched this entire soap opera just to find out there was no fight. I've been a fan for a long time and this is one of the most disappointing things to ever happen.

Shame on UFC for even airing this garbage.
you cant blame ufc or dana himself for this... blame little bitch ortiz who cant even show up for his weigh in... all he had to do was fight an amateur/business man... he is nothin but a pussy... plus PRIDE aint nearly as exciting as ufc

Being stationed in Okinawa, my television is two weeks behind. I'm actually watching the damned thing right now...

I did a search to see if the episode included the fight; obviously it doesn't. What a load of crap.

The quote presented in the previous posting is supposed to be:
What happens inside the Octagon is a sport with honor and integrity. Using your skill and ability to settle differences outside of the cage in the name of MMA is like using a Louisville Slugger to smash a pitcher's mailbox after striking out in the World Series in the name of baseball.
In the birth of such a great sport, first and foremost, I would have to agree and support Mr. Holland's assessment regarding the integrity of the sport:
The show is an in-depth look at the exhibition boxing match Dana White and Tito Ortiz were set to have on March 24 after many years of name calling and finger pointing because as we've all learned, fighting solves everything.
As is, MMA is all ready facing the same stigmas of any other fighting sport whereby implications of questionable integrity of the events are starting to be raised. At the one hand, one could argue that the UFC's pseudo-monopoly status would permit it to manipulate outcomes for the sake of profits. At the other hand, fighters or camps could collude with amongst themselves to keep or enter a certain ranking status that will guarantee bigger paychecks for longer periods of time. This has been already well document by Steve Levitt (Freakonomics) in the case of sumo wrestling. The trail of this conversation should be easy to predict. WHAT SPORT WOULD BE THE MOST EXEMPLARY CASE OF FRAUD?

YOU GUESSED IT ... PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING.

Interesting enough, if you look at the history of wrestling, you would find that professional wrestling was actual real wrestling (as opposed to WWE) without predetermined outcomes. Throughout it has undergone several iterations of mutation (in my opinion for the worse) and ended up where it is today. One thing is having a fighter woefully throwing away a fight. An even worse thing is the president/owner or any other administrative personnel fight the very fighters they are supposed to manage. Case in point: Vince McMahon. For the sake of reputability it could be argue that a few other CEO's are doing it too. The Donald did, right? ... Honestly, how reputable is the Donald?, really.

I think this fight not happening saves MMA reputability. If MMA takes that turn, it would be impossible to reinstate its prestige back to its optimal level. I couldn't care less if either Dana or Tito won, because the UFC at large would lose (along with fans craving really, as opposed to staged, fighting. Everybody has a competitive advantage, something that distinguishes them from everybody else. Dana is a heck of a fighting promoter, businessman, and front figure of a booming industry. Tito is perhaps one of the most explosive, strong and dedicated fighters. I wouldn't want to see Tito running the UFC anymore than I would want to see Dana lacing up for a fight. To paraphrase Dana, "certain people are born with a fighter instinct ... that's what they are born to do and do it very well ... I discovered a long time ago I was not one of them". Dana is a great competitor and victorious man in many aspects of life. A being a great fighter, however, is not his competitive advantage.

Let's keep the sanctity of the sport as long as we can.

From the beginning I TOLD my b/f this was never going to happen. I knew it was just a ploy, know why? It sounded very very familiar to me, almost like a big cash grab and a storyline right out of "RAW", anyone remember a little Stone Cold vs. Vince McMahon. Strange that with all the sucess of the UFC that they would resort to such a weird match considering its so HOT right now, this could have waited until all the bandwagon jumpers got the hell off again and we resumed "getting it on" as it should be done. But, hey, to break up some of the seriousness and perhaps give real fans a laugh, through some shit like this together. But Now? Why? I certainly hope there is no more of this crap. The UFC has real class. Dont fuck it up.
