I think my suspicions about pseudo-experts are becoming ever more fortified. Anecdotal accounts are not records nor evidence. So grandmas with a cane tripping a 300 lb wrestler do count as a take down.

I am counting on statistics and numbers, and some "Maine-iacs" are counting on tattle-tales. Perhaps, they're better suited for WWE. OR IS THAT FAN BASE MOVING TO WHAT IT ONCE WAS A SPORT FOR PEOPLE WITH TRUE LOVE FOR FIGHTING?

Well, I would say loosing via guillotine or rear naked choke is more of one of those things anyone can get caught in. My 15 year old cousin caught my 25 year old "goon" friend in a rear naked choke, it happens. I stick by my story, Diego with no answer for Kos anytime they fight.

A lot the fighter records that you see today seem to be in very heavy dispute. If you check the official records (i.e., Sherdog) as compared with UFC posted record, there seems to be a discrepancies. Not only as to number of fights, but wins, loses and draws. Accordingly, a lot of this fights are not very well documented. If you recall, it was only until recently that MMA was again legally and officially sanctioned in the USA. A lot of this older fights went, pretty much, undocumented.

Go to sherdog.com and look up Diego's record. You'll only count 18 bouts with 17-1-0 record, whereas UFC [should] says his record is 19-1-0. The problem is that the UFC only documents his UFC fights, and show no record of fights previous to the UFC. I can recollect the actual event, but I am sure they have fought before. I am absolutely sure that this was actually mentioned when Diego and Koscheck fought in TUF 1.

Unless, there is conspiracy theory of trying to keep Koscheck down, I'm sticking with was mentioned in previously aired media venues.

If history has told us anything is that anybody can have a very bad night, and just about anybody can get lucky. Betting pools serve the purpose of showing us who is favorite to win in any sport. Granted, this sport's mainstream has created a lot of pseudo-self-proclaimed experts, and a lot of people just follow the herd. I believe, however, that betting pools give us a general idea of the average talent of a fighter as perceived by experts(real and pseudo), sports analyst, other fighters, and the public at large.

Diego was poised to win with a 3 to 1 ratio. That translates to a 75% chance of winning. People believed that Diego would win. Why? ... Well he has beaten Koscheck twice before (yes, the TUF is not the first time they had met, contrary with what Koscheck was leading people to believe). The "Kos" was avenging not one, but two loses in a row. Diego had, moreover, dominated a lot people with big names in this division. People that where once poised as number 1 contenders in the division, whereas Koscheck had been beaten long-ago-forgotten-has-beens. Although Koscheck made improvements, Diego had improved as fighter as well. People just expected Diego to keep winning.

WE JUST CAN'T TELL WHO'S GOING TO WIN ANYMORE ... RIGHT?

WRONG.

The same night that Diego Sanchez lost, people were stunned by perhaps the biggest upset in MMA history. Matt Serra defeated GSP. Let me rephrase that: MATT SERRA DESTROYED GSP [OR ROLLED OVER HIM, STUMPED HIM, KICKED HIS ASS]. Do I dare say that I can predict, or anybody else for that matter, Serra defeating GSP twice in a row. I don't think so. Then again, he might prove me wrong. In the end, we just don't have enough information about how they match.

Diego did lose the fight. I wouldn't call that a win for Koscheck but Diego did lose. Could we predict that Koscheck would beat Diego again? I wouldn't think so. The score is 2 to 1 this far. Chuck Liddel lost once to Jeremy Horn, once to Randy Couture, once to "Rampage" Quinton Jackson. He has avenged his loses. I guess, it's a little premature to say who is the better fighter. We need more data to actually run the numbers. With a 2 to 1 score between Diego and Koscheck, and the fact that Koscheck had everything to prove, I'll give Diego the benefit of the doubt and say he had a bad night. Next time they meet, I will go with the stats and put my money on Diego. I think Koscheck has shown all that he could ever be. I think Diego has more still to show.

Ashamed to vent so much on a negative Kos/Diego performance. Maybe UFC management will learn how to stop the pointless dancing and shadow boxing, use of non-combative reverse, etc. I don't question talent/potential, they just did not use it. All the respondents also seem to have a big question about what really happened. Too bad there wasn't a lucky punch early in the first round, so we could really and gut-wise want a rematch. Did we see the veneer of really poor professional wrestling translated to the UFC? They could have faked a much better match. Weigh in was a good start for this type of venue. Lets have this on special UFC fill ins on Spike, but not on ppv.

diego couldn't take kos down, but he took his back in a matter of seconds when kos took him down and didn't seemed rattled be kos's takedown at all. im not denying koschecks improvement, his athleticism, or his wrestling... but i agree with diego when he said he is not a fighter, and does not like to get hit.

I dont think Diego was off his game. We saw him having trouble dealing with Alessios strength even. He couldnt take kos down, and couldn't out strike him either, it was like watching Hughes have nothing on GSP, or Tito having no answer for Liddell, he was outclassed! No excuses. And much like Tito and LIddell 2, the second time around will be the same. Im not saying Diego is a chump, just that Kos has really improved. He's a great wrestler, and is going to really make GSP work for that title.
