“… winning the championship wouldn’t change me. I’m not going to be one of those guys who starts referring to himself in the third-person. And if I do, I expect someone to punch me in the head.”

– UFC welterweight title challenger Matt Serra on the life as a UFC champion if he can defeat current 170-pound boss Georges St. Pierre at UFC 69 next weekend as told to NBCSports.com.

Well, you expect that all right. GSP will give you a taste of that medicine soon enough you gracie nuthugger. Was anyone else annoyed at TUF4 about how emotional Serra got when people discussed how Royce lost the fight to Hughes?

i like serra, he’s a good guy, he was pretty entertaining on tuf too, however he’s in for a long night next sat.

I agree Spida. He was a fantastic coach on TUF. I think his team would have lost half those fights without him in the corner. Unfortunately, GSP is going to do a number on him.

I think Serra shouldn’t have argued with that assclown coach on tuff and knocked him out if he felt that strong. What is that asshats name anyway. If I trained as much as that guy I would at least get in the octagon a couple times..

I hate when I go to a blog and the first three people say exactly what I am thinking. I’d much rather see Serra win, I like him 10xs as much as GSP, but it aint happenin.

His name is Marc Laimon,he teaches bjj.I respect what he knows, but it wasn’t smart of him to diss Serra’s hero(Royce Gracie) in front of everybody the way he did. That was messed up,especially when Marc don’t have the guts 2 step in the cage anyway…What a punk…kissin up 2 Hughes….ask Marc what Matt’s ass tasted like!!!!……ps.Hughes defeating Gracie didn’t impress me..more impressing was how Royce didn’t tap…Holla on Monday boyz!!!!!!!!!!!

I know he’s fighting for the champioship, but the fact that he’s even thinking about what he’d be like as champ is ridiculous because it’s never going to happen as long as he’s fighting GSP.

You guys are pretty brutal on Serra. Can he beat GSP? Of course not, he couldn’t take Chris Lytle down so he won’t be able to take GSP down, but he showed me on that show that he’s down to earth and not an asshole. I think he deserves more respect than some of you are giving him

GSP will win this for sure but Serra’s a hell of a guy. Good to the bone. I loved when he straightened out ole boy. Tell anyone who don’t like the Gracie’s to try and win in the octagon without it. Either for offence or defence and see how well they do.

I think serra has one of the best personalities of any of the UFC fighters i’ve seen. He is just a fun guy to watch. But personality does not win you a fight and i dont think he has got what it takes to beat GSP.

I agree that it is pretty hard to dis Serra, b/c he sure seems like a great guy. I would say that Serra wins this firght 1 time in 10… There is always a chance that the fight ends up on the ground with Serra on top or in a dominant possition. I think 9 of 10 times GSP out strikes/ kicks Serra. I would say Serra needs to grab ahold and close the distance early. The longer that those two guys are apart the sooner Serra is going to be asleep.

This is really a no lose situation for Serra. Win or lose he is going to get paid more to fight and increase his exposure.

Couldn’t agree more w/ you. From what I’ve heard, he’s a real nice guy and had no problem being a coach for the guys on the TUF season. Hell, 2 guys he was coaching defeated him. That takes a lot of character.

However, I don’t believe that we can say he flat out WON’T beat GSP. The chances are slim to none, but w/ 4 ounce gloves on, anything can happen. It wasn’t too long ago that Serra caught Karo w/ a nice right hand at the beginning of their matchup and almost got a stoppage, so I believe you can’t completely count someone out of a fight.

To be quite honest I hope serra wins. I’m not a big GSP fan. I base my likes dislikes of a fighter on their fighting style. GSP is a little too karate kid for me.Now i’m not saying he isn’t a bad MF but its just not that entertaining to see the “perfect “spinning back kick”. Its like watching a Martial arts text book.

I love watching Gsp fight he looks like an artist out there and for me has the nicest personality in the Ufc. Serra is a nice guy too but too loud and in your face but his good points out weight his bad. Gsp is so well rounded and looks good where ever he is, except for when Hughes got him on his back in there first fight but his wrestling and bjj have gotten a lot better since then. Gsp is going to destroy Serra…period, I almost never say that but feel in this case its warranted. To be honest I don’t even want to see this fight, too one sided, swicks and sanchez’s fights will be much better and the ones I’m looking forward to watching.

The only one that comes to mind is Mstt hughes ” I don’t know what the future holds for matt hughes” or something like that. Serra hates hughes.

Hey Nathan, I give it a 51%-GSP and 49%-Serra… no more or less. As much as u know bout fighting, I’m suprised u don’t think Serra could pull it off on some bs… What if GSP shows up like Franklin did? The world would b shocked!!!
