Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski is on the road to regain his title, which he lost to Tim Sylvia at UFC 59 in April 2006 courtesy of a knockout punch.
His journey back to the top began at UFC 66, with a first round knockout of Marcio Cruz, reminding fight fans that he is still a force in the division.
At the end of that road, however, Arlovski could find himself someday locked in a cage with Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic — provided the Croatian can beat Gabriel Gonzaga and current keeper of the belt, Randy Couture.
Even before that can happen, “The Pitbull” will have his hands full on April 21 at UFC 70 against UFC newcomer and top-ranked Fabricio Werdum.
However, a future showdown between Cro Cop and Arlovski is just too good not to discuss. And, the Chicago Sun-Times recently did just that with its local star.
Here’s a snip from Arlovksi on a potential fight with Cro Cop:
”Why not? A lot of people would like to see it. I think it would be a good fight and a good test.”
Without a doubt, it’s match up that most fans have wanted to see for a long time. Whether or not it ever comes together, however, will depend on what happens in three weeks in Manchester, England.
Clearly, wins for both fighters could set them on a collision course for later this year.
And if that does happen, I’m willing to be it’d be better than “good.”

I go down like a sack of potatoes in a deep empty well and my pupils roll to the back of my head while I have a 5min sleep.
arlovski would make a badass fight against anyone except sylvia for some reason, cro cop has that unbeatable feel about him, which makes me think he’s gonna lose real soon, whether thats to gonzaga or couture or arlovski or whoever…i would like to see arlovski try to make 205 and fight liddell, talk about a badass fight…

I think Arlovski went through a bad time and will now start beating people down again. Although Werdum cannot be taken lightly and may very well snap AA’s leg.I smile everytime I watch his highlight real when he hits cabbage with some nice hard combos…

I hope he can KO Werdum and get some confidence back so we will start seeing him look like a monster again. He better not take Werdum lightly though. I think he would make a great fight against CC until that left leg came. I really dont think blocked or not, he would still be on his feet afterwards.
I think Arlovski style would match up well with Cro Cop. However, Arlovski was knocked out by Silvia and I think Mirko hits harder than that.

There are more idiots here than on Sherdog, if that can be believed. Do you even know who Fabricio Werdum is, you putz? AA isnt even a top ten worldwide HW. He has been beaten twice my Tim Sylvia. He just beat a complete stiff in Cruz. I guess he should get a title shot now, right?
Like I said AA is one of my favs, but even ill agree that he shouldnt look past Werdum. If it goes to the ground Werdum has a good chance of submitting AA. Thats not to say that AA cant hold his own on the ground because most know what he is capable of, but werdum is in another league on the ground. AA will want to keep this fight standing.
Werdum applies the kickboxing he learnt from Cro Cop only to prepare takedowns as far as I have seen in the last fights, so its pretty much like Matt said. If it goes to the ground, its Werdum, if Werdum decides to strike or AA forces him to, then AA could knock him out.

So what if Mirko lost to Randleman by KO ? A few months later he chocked him out even thou he never chocked out or submitted anyone else . And Randleman is actually the wrestler . So what if Crocop lost to Mark Hunt via split decision ? Nobody could complain if the judges gave the match to Crocop the same way . Mark Hunt also lost to Josh Barnett and Josh lost to Crocop 3 times including a brutal beating in the last fight .But does this mean now that Crocop is a better figher than Hunt or that he could beat Barnett for the fourth time ?

I´m sick of people measuring or critisizing fighters because of 1 or 2 fights or losses .
Do you have any idea how stronger the Pride heavyweight division is compared with the UFC . I have seen every Pride tournament including all the Bushido´s and all the Grand Prix´s … and i have seen all 68 Ufc tournaments . At the time when Arlovski or Sylvia were UFC champions they wouldn´t be among the Top 5 in Pride . Arlovski is a great fighter but if he fought in Pride the last 5 years its more likely that his score would be 5:10 and not 10:5 .
But its still possible that he can defeat Crocop . Sometimes it takes only one good hit . But claiming that Arlovski will beat him because he was UFC champ or because Randleman succeded to knock him out … is just pure crap .

Sorry if i have upset any AA fans or those who are not . I will try to explain this better . Let´s say AA fought in Pride the last 5 years and made 15 - 20 fights over there . If he had fought lets say twice against every top Pride fighter like Fedor , Crocop , Minotaur , Mark Hunt , S. Kharitonov , Mauricio Shogun Rua , Maurillo Ninja Rua , Josh Barnett etc … there is absolutely no way he would have a 10:5 score like in the UFC . I really respect AA as a fighter and former UFC champ but the Pride heavyweight contenders the last 5 years were just too strong compared with the UFC . For f-u-c-k sakes he lost twice against Sylvia and there is no way Sylvia would make it to the Top 3 or 4 in Pride ever. NO WAY .
The other UFC weight classes are equally good covered and attractive like the similar Pride weight classes …but not the heavyweight and for that reason Dana White paid 2 millions for Crocop . He needed a real world class fighter to strength up the UFC heavyweights and maybe consider other Pride fighters like F. Werdum to do the same and jump over to the UFC.

Yes its probably somewhere in between my 95% and your 75% . I still believe that more than 50 % people that reply here know very little about Pride tournaments and Pride fighters . Yes they heard about them but most of them have not watched the Pride events except a fight here and then . I came to this conclusion after seeing many replys where people have no clue about F. Werdum or posting comments that Arlovski or Lidell ( other topics )are too fast & better strikers than Mirko and also that Crocop has a weak chin because they know he was knocked down by Randleman . I have also seen many comments where UFC fans give advantage to Gonzaga or Couture and posting crap like Crocop has no ground-skills .
Here the reasons for my suspicions about the 50%
1. If you don´t know who Fabricio Werdum is you should do some researches first before ever replying again in any MMA forum
2. Arlovski & Lidell are better & faster strikers than Crocop !!!
My fully respect to both fighters . Their extremly fast and strong but even Joe Rogan admitted that Crocop is maybe the best striker and without doubt the best counter-striker in the world . He is the only MMA fighter today capable to knock out his opponents with both legs and both hands . And what to say about his speed . All the guys he knocked out with his hands or feets knew how fast he was but they still got hit in the chin or kicked in the head . Why ? I guess they didn´t see it coming … because it was just too fast for them .
3. CroCop has a weak chin !!!
Guys… Crocop has only 1 KO in his MMA career . He was caught by a BIG left hook from a REALLY REALLY BIG guy . That left hook from Randleman would probably rip of the head of many other fighters but he didn´t knock out CROCOP with that left hook . CroCop was without doubt hit very hard but he recovered while falling down . The KO came later while Randleman took full-guard over Mirko and finished him with the Hammerfists . That was the real KO and not that left hook . Never before and later he was knocked out even thou he was hit by many other great strikers like Silva , Fedor , Hunt etc. If i compare Arlovski´s chin with Crocops it seems to me that AA kissed the floor everytime he was punched although some hits were not nearly so devastating like Randlemans big left hook .
4. Crocop has no ground-skills !!!
Again , Crocop was submitted only once in his MMA career from Minotaur . Never before or after that fight he was not even close the danger to be submitted again even thou he was in bad positions against some top-submission specialists like Fedor or Barnett . Mirko has also maybe the best take-down defense in all MMA today . Mirko has no ground-skills !!! What a bunch of crap .
Therefore all those guys who post comments like those above give me enough reasons to suspect that they maybe didn´t see any MMA events except the UFC tournaments . Specially those posting crap like Crocops arrival to the UFC is too hyped and that he is too overrated . Ignorants !
At this moment Crocop is the only fighter capable to defeat Fedor . He was the only Pride fighter the last 5 years too earn 3 titleshots for the heavyweight division . When i see what losers have fought in the UFC for the HW belt i can only laugh . Now imagine that Dana White has not signed recently Crocop and Randy Couture . At this moment Sylvia would be the champ and Gonzaga !!! after 3 lame wins against some nobody´s would be the first contender for the titleshot . Hillarious .
To be the #1 Pride contender for the HW titleshot you need 6-7 wins in a row against some really tough guys . Crocop has earned both of his 2 titleshots this way . Knocking down whoever they put in front of him . The third titleshot he earned last year by winning the OW Grand Prix tournament but this fight was sadly never realized cause Mirko signed in the meantime for UFC because he was not satisfied with the financial terms offered to him from Pride . So again all those ignorants posting crap like Mirko is overrated just give me enough reasons to suspect they have never seen him fight except maybe the Randleman loss because i guess they just don´t want to accept how much stronger the Pride HW division is compared to the UFC HW division . It´s the only way to convince you that Fedor, Hunt, Sakuraba , A.Emilianenko , M.Coleman, Perlman , Barnett and the rest of the Pride HW´s are much tougher fighters than Buentelo , Gonzaga , Sanchez and most of the other UFC HW´s .

I´m just a big MMA fan and i enjoy the UFC tournaments equally like the Pride events but its just that the Pride heavyweights & light heavyweights have more great fighters . Hey Man whats up. I see that yo have a love for the MMA world, and although I am only 23 years old, I have to let you know, I have seen all but one UFC event, and I have seen Every Pride Event Imaginable, of course with the exception of the ones that did not air. I have so great respect for the way you look at MMA, but I think you worry yourself with the detail too much. Cro cop is amazing, and does not have a weak chin. I would have to say that I believe that some of the UFC talent in the Heavy weight division was lacking. Cotour is the man, and for people who doubt him, I say “you do it”! I do believe that the number one man out there is Fedor. I think that cro cop has what it takes to beat Fedor, but there fight showed that he needed work. I love the UFC because of there ability to market, and I believe that the talent pool will some day be amazing. As for who I think is one of the next big stars, one word “shogun”. It was quite interesting to hear your comments, but let the new mma fans have some fun. Without them the sport would not be growing.

Thanks for this great reply . I totally agree with everything you said .Crocop is amazing and he has no weak chin . Randy is a legend and he proofed it 2 months ago returning with 43 years and fighting through 5 rounds like a 25 years young fighter. And Fedor is the current #1 in the world but the only man capable to beat him today is Crocop . He improved amazing the last 2 years since he lost his last titleshot . I have never seen him so fast , secure and destructive like he was in the finals and semifinals last year in the openweight pride grand prix . He literarely teared W. Silva and Barnett apart . For this reason i´m sad he didn´t fight Fedor again before he signed to UFC . And i do enjoy every UFC event although they miss more worldclass fighters in the heavier division but they always make a great show and the fights in the lighter divisions are awesome . And considering the newer MMA fans i understand that everybody has his own favorite fighter and his own oppinion about other fighters but for f-u-c-k sakes do some research before you post stupid comments like :Ë? Who the hell is this Fabricio Werdum Ë?or Ë?Crocop has a weak chinË? .

I welcome TiptonDowning and Chris Valentine to the very exclusive club of a dozen of people here that actually know what they are talking about. Good read’s altogether. Like I posted in the CroCop-Gonzaga thread, Mirko is training his BJJ and apparently making alot of progress. It would be wicked to see Mirko handing takedowns to guys like Arlovski and then finish by ground and pound.
