melvin guillard ufc

“All these fighters right now – including Stevenson and a couple of other fighters that I know of – they’re all using growth hormones … they’re altering their game by using anabolic shit, you know, they just can’t get caught with it because it’s growth.”

– Transcript of Sherdog radio accusations — via MMAWeekly.com — from UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard that his upcoming opponent at UFC Fight Night 9 on April 5, Joe Stevenson, ingests banned illegal substances to improve his performance inside the Octagon.

A more interesting raio interview happened at the Scott Ferrell show yesterday night. Chuck declared that he wants to move to Heavyweight to fight Cro Cop, so that Cro Cop has no excuse when he loses. I better don’t comment on that statement. Whatever ..

Has everyone forgotten that Chuck backs up what he says with his fists?Hes not like Chico Ortiz who runs his mouth then gets beaten badly. And if you look at how Chuck has handled his losses you’ll see that he doesn’t make excuses.I’m not saying that he couldn’t be beaten by CC but to say that hes stupid for calling him out is unwarranted..

WB, I respect that you’re the more established blogger here, and don’t wish to quibble, but it’s just my opinion and opinions don’t fall under the “warranted or unwarranted” guidelines, they’re just opinions. I believe that Cro Cop would flat out over power Chucky, Geez, CC went the distance with Fedor, could Chuck?? I think not, and would hate to see him try as I dig tha brutha, and I am no “Chico” fan by a long way, but he did take Chuck to 3 rounds last time out… bit maybe CL was just gettin in a little work… just my opinion

I would never count Chuck out…and there is no telling what he could do or not do against Cro Cop of Fedor…becuase it hasn’t happend yet…he’s just saying he wasnt it to happen..i would love to see it and wouldnt be suprised if chuck won, i wouldnt be suprised if cro cop won either…everybody can be beaten i promise you

Not trying to call the fight either but once upon a time Randleman KO’d CC nasty style and he’s not a flee on Chuck’s behind. Chuck has a much better chance of KO’n CC then Randleman does. It may have been a fluk but it happened. Also Sobral took Fedor to decision in a smaller show and Chuck crushed Sobral both times. I dont think The Iceman would pull it off but he’s got a descent chance. Marco9690, I think you were saying the same but Chuck could have finished Tito off easy in the 1st but for whatever reason he didnt and it went to the 3rd so I dont think thats a valid point either.

Where do get get off calling Chuck a dumbass? CC could put him flat to sleep but at least he has the heart to go fight him and find out. What is he only suppose to fight guys he knows he can beat? People on this very site has already made the weight excuse saying Chuck was scared to move up in weight and fight at his natural weight. That alone to me sounds funny. Every combat artist in the world trains for a certain weight class and doesn’t fight at their sitting around the house weight. This just proves he ain’t scared of shit and wants to prove he is, as he believes, the very best pound for pound fighter on the planet. He loves to fight anyone, nomatter what and instead of repecting his heart, people talk shit.

Back on topic I’m sure many athletes use HGH. You never hear about it because there is almost no way to test it. In fact the only reason people use steroids is because they are cheaper and easier to come by. HGH is much more effective and has almost no known side effects plus like I said before its very hard to test for. I have only seen 1 UFC in the last 2 years that I havent seen at least one fighter with visible signs of steroid use during their fight. If guys are still willing to risk getting caught using roids then just imagine how many guys are using a better wrking substance with no chance of getting caught.

Back to Guillard for a mement here, he talks too much! Isn’t it a little much to say your opponent is taking illegal drugs? I think Guillard must be scared of Joe. Looking for excuses not to fight, or excuses for a loss?

What happened to athletes using natural size and abilty to win fights? It’s all I seem to hear anymore. Steroid this and HGH that. Drug test this. It’s ridiculous!

I’m a little guy who walks around rock solid at my natural weight, so it’s never occured to me to use any kind of enhancement whether it be legal like creatine or otherwise. I feel that I’m in the best shape of my life which anyone IMO should be if they are going to be fighting. So why would I want to add chemicals and other “unnaturals” to my regimine?

If you are truly at the top of your game for your weight, why would you want to make changes to that? If you claim to be that good then you should be just that “naturally good”.

Just my opinion.

Royce Gracie kicked dudes asses twice his size with nothing more than carne asada running through his viens. I am not sure how much any of this will help a fighter other than mentally. So that get stronger faster, ok. Ever see Noguiera armlock Bob Sapp? That thing was ready to break if he didnt tap.
Btw, Stevenson has responded saying his dad died of cancer and that he would never use anything like HGH. He also admitted to using the internet to start rumors about his opponents that he knew werent true.

Its all good Bawana, and i think your statement about performance enhancing substances is correct, IMO its fairly obvious who is taking something and who isn’t. As for the subject of Melvin talking trash…he should just be quiet until he wins like 4 in a row then start talking trash.

Actually thats obviously not true for Heavyweights and especially not for Cro Cop who said in an interview once that he never thought about making a certain weight, he just trains to be in a good shape and whatever the weight results, fine with him.

Back on-topic: Stevenson replied to the accusation on the radio show. Should be transcribed at sherdog or mmaweekly.

Actually, just found the source again, here you go:

@UFCmania: maybe you can incorporate that as an update in the original post or make a “Quick quote” thing outta this. I think it’d suck if people would have the impression MG was stating the truth (obviously its not yet clear).

The link to that story — the same one you just posted — is in the orginal post. Just click on it. And by using the term “accusations” in the description it seems clear that Joe Stevenson is not, in fact, using HGH.

ANYWAY back to the topic. Would anyone suggest that Melvin’s playing mind games with Joe? I mean cmon, I dont see alot of other fighters explode into the scene with right hook knockouts(Rick Davis), Body shot knockouts(Gabe Reudiger), and just the natural ability to whoops someones ass. Who do you think is worried more? Melvin because of his biggest and toughest opponent yet, or Joe because of the HGH statement and the shit talk. I dunno but when a fighter speaks upon another fighter about substances, obviously he’s gonna look like a goon, but what if Joe really does take em, then what happens?

Yes, this is the Japanese way of fighting. Cutting weight to make a lower weight class is an American wrestling concept/holdover from UFC 1. Hopefully with knees to the head of a downed opponent ( neutralizing the Jake O’Briens of the world ) this will get rid of the wrestling mentality in American MMA for good. Most fighters in other parts of the world dont cut weight to make a specific weight class.
