W/e about Joe Riggs. I just hope the UFC figures out a way to show the WEC on TV. You dont need two great fighters to have great fights. Some of Bisping’s CR fights are pretty cool to watch, though both fighters are at sucky points in their careers.
Riggs is right that a lot of great fighters are going to be there, kinda like Triple A for baseball. Now these guys have will have a quality, regulated, and trustworthy promotion to fight in, not needing to worry about the “doc” at ringside, if the purse will be there at nights end, that their opponent has been tested ( possibly if their straw is drawn, I know, but better than getting in the cage with a guy loaded on Hydro and amphetamines ), etc.

Riggs is actually a personal friend of mine, and he is a great fighter.

He has’nt expressed to me any serious issues about the UFC, other than what the most common form of complaint is “you just caint come back from back to back losses in the UFC”. Which is a true statement for some fighters.

Riggs completely blew through the WEC, since they now are having a super middleweight division. Joe’s record was like 23-4 when he entered the UFC, but you have to hand it to younger fighters, they learn from there losses, and I definetally see Joe dominating that division.

Joe had to step down from the middleweight belt holder in order to take up the challenge against a personal friend, Chris Lytle. I’m positive were going to see Joe newer and better in late 07 or early 08, and some more ground and pound dominance coming from his always improving technique.

I wouldn’t say Riggs is a bad fighter. He’s beat a lot of tough fighters like Kendal Grove, Chris Lytle and Nick Diaz.

Anyways, RIggs is a great pro. The guy is ligit, not every1 in this game has to be some dominant fighter who crushes everyone. Guys loose, but Riggs has talent and skills that belong in the UFC. Give him some seasoning time in the WEC and he’ll become a gate keeper for newer TUF fresh meat. He’ll never win a championship, but in all seriousness i dont think any of us understand how tough it is to be a “gatekeeper” in the UFC. Just that alone requires a sick amount of skills. I like Riggs i hope he does good.

I just watched his fight with diego last night and could not believe he dropped his head like that to get a knee. Why the hell didn’t he stand straight up and upper cut diego as he rushed in rather than dropping his head? Bizarre man…..I agree with rogan he seems to be hot and cold and he was definetly cold that night. He seems to be talented in most areas but seems to have difficultly pulling them all together in the octagon. I also saw diego’s fight with karo a wicked fight and in my opinion the best of 2006, I don’t know how hughes/st.pierre got the vote it was so one sided and short.
The diego/karo fight was so close until the last half of round 3 , I really think karo is the more talented of the two but diego has the endurance and it looked like karo gassed, too bad. Over all I think if rigg’s gets the mental aspect of mma down he’ll go far.

Just wanted to say to people if you look why Joe switched, its mainly for the WEC to get more public attention, since Joe is almost Arizona’s top contender. If you really want to see a Joe riggs look at the Nick Diaz fight and the Von Flu fight, joe looked extremely focused when he came out, and started the pace slow and calmly.

I just wanted to hit a side not here Joe is actually 28 wins and 9 losses.

Hey ive got nothing against Gurgel, hes a great JuJitsu guy. But if your telling me That beating up Danny Abadi (the seaworld king) and LOOSING against Hominick mean something than im sorry but i dont feel the same. It bothers me that everytime Rich Franklin fights theres always the cameo interview with Gurgel and hes always in the camera shot b4 and after rich’s fights (Not to mention everytime theres a live shot Gurgel suddenly pops in the picture and always makes eye contact with the camera). Ive seen 3 Gurgel fights, and he hasnt impressed in not one (Abbadi doesnt count cuz he shouldnt even be fighting in the UFC). BUT Jorge is a skilled guy like i said he has great JuJitsu, but he shoould worry about his own career instead of riding Franklins coat tails. But like you said Woody we’ll see in his next fight. LOL, your right……….But last time i checked Hackelman wasnt an active fighter. AM I wrong? Point being, no1 knw’s Gurgel for anything more than being in Rich’s corner and being his 1st pick on TUF b/c he was Richs homey. Hes a great trainer, the guy is awesome at JuJitsu but he considers himself a fighter and if he wants to be taken seriously then he should get out of Rich’s shadow and make a name for himself. I dont dislike the guy, i just dont think hes a UFC fighter and the only reason any1 in the UFC knows his name is b/c of Rich Franklin and has nothing to do with what hes accomplished for himself.

joe riggs in my opinion wants easier competition. the only good person he beat was diaz and it was a decision win not a decisive one. everyone that beat him, pretty much made him look like a fool. im surprised the ufc kept bringing him to fight.

Everyone is hating on Riggs on here- he had a couple bad performances when his head was outta the game.. very young and talented fighter but needed to be more focused mentally- and spike tv seems to replay his few bad losses constantly, leaving us with this image when we think of him.

Ask anyone he’s trained with or anyone hes beat and theyll tell u the same, tremendous talent, gonna be great…He’s fighting WEC now, and will be back on the top of his game soon and shut all the haters up again…

Riggs got some badass combinations, hes well improved. I liked the umpfh in hes strikes against Phil Baroni, insane knees too.
