In a dark bedroom in Nova Scotia, UFC lightweight and former The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) contestant, Jorge Gurgel, revealed in a weird interview with Sherdog.com that he will fight next on June 30 in Ireland.
Gurgel did not mention a possible opponent.
With UFC 71 scheduled for May 26 this could be the date for UFC 72. MMAWeekly.com has tentatively had the event scheduled in for July 7, but notes that the date is subject to change.
In previous interviews, UFC President Dana White has declared that he wants to hold at least four UFC shows in Europe this year.
And with UFC 70 confirmed for April 21 in Manchester, England, and a possible show in Ireland on June 30, White would be half-way to his goal half-way through 2007.
Also in the interview, Gurgel mentions that he would never fight friends Rich Clementi, Hermes Franca and PRIDE lightweight standout, Marcus Aurelio.
Why is that important?
Well, it really isn’t. I just want to pass along a nice rumor also from Sherdog.com that Aurelio could be headed to the UFC after the PRIDE Lightweight Grand Prix later this year.
Here’s the snip:
According to predictions, Marcus Aurelio won’t have an easy start to the PRIDE Lightweight Grand Prix. According to several rumors, the Brazilian will probably face former Shooto welterweight champion Tatsuya Kawajiri in the opening round. Rumors also suggest that after this tournament the American Top Team fighter will join to UFC.

I think having a UFC event in Ireland will be awesome. I think 2 other countries that the UFC should host an event in are Germany and Russia and that should be enough for the UFC to conquer Europe. After that is done, the UFC should host each year, 1 or 2 events in Europe, Asia, and Latin America (Mexico or Brazil).
Isnt Mike Bisping from Ireland!? Why didnt ufc do the show later if he will go a title.bound?

I dont know of many Irish fighters that the UFC can promote for Irelanders to go there…it wont be as big as the England event im sure
Okey you have right, but its funny becouse sometimes in different sport its all united kingdom and thats include the hole island…
I think I heard Dana say the Ireland event will be UFN. As for Germany, isn’t MMA illegal there? However, I would bet that the Ferttitas have Italy on the agenda That may be why they have Sakara on UFC 70, hoping for a win so he can headline UFC Rome.
I Thought the English flag was red and white…
Aurelio would be a nice addition to the UFC..he is one of the few to hold a win over Gomi…but it seems like a ways away
holy fuck they would tear the joint down those guys there will hop in,it would bring more fans to the fore front at the very least, great idea…
I’m from Ireland and if this was to happen I will quit literaly sh1t my pants with joy!!
I just hope the quality is higher then Gurgel…
I don’t know anyone from Ireland but you can assume Ed Herman has some Irish in him with that fire red hair.
