While his immediate future is unknown because of an eye injury sustained during a loss to Rich Franklin at UFC 68, the manager for Canadian middleweight Jason MacDonald, Mark Pavelich, is eager to see a showdown with his client and Martin Kampmann, according to Sherdog.com.
Here’s a snip:
“… when asked about future opponents for The Athlete,’ Pavelich said that MacDonald has proven he belongs in the mix with other top middleweight contenders. No specifics have been discussed with the UFC, but Pavelich added that he’d like to see a match-up with Dane Martin Kampmann.”
Kampmann is coming off of an impressive first round submission victory over Drew McFedries at UFC 68 — one that disturbed many viewers who thought he didn’t release the choke soon enough and finally did so well after the Miletich product was unconscious.
Both fighters are on the fringe of the elite in the division when compared to 185-pound studs such as Anderson Silva, Nathan Marquardt, Rich Franklin, Mike Swick and Yushin Okami.
Making the potential match up more appealing is that fact that all of the fighters mentioned above — sans Franklin — already have fights scheduled.
However, it’s whispered that the winner of the Swick-Okami bout at UFC 69 on April 7 will fight Franklin for an eventual shot against the winner of the Silva-Marquardt championship bout at UFC 72 on July 7.
Provided the MacDonald injury heals (he has already resumed light training) both fighters also have the benefit of timing having fought on the same night.
It’s not a marquee attraction, but a clash between these two would be a solid addition to any main pay-per-view (PPV) card.
Here’s to hoping we see it one day soon.

I can see this fight happening and better yet it would be a wicked match-up.
i agree, it’d be tight
Good matchup in my opinion. Hopefully dana will listen up.
Hope this one happens.
Unlinke his last fight, I think Kampmann should keep this one on his feet. You can call me captain obvious.
anyone know what “eye injury” macdonald has?
orbital. remember franklin raining down bombs? well, his eye caught a few of them.
It was a blown blood vessel.
“Jason required seven stitches around his right eye, and the doctor told him that it was probably a broken blood vessel that caused his blindness, which was more than likely temporary.” — Sherdog article.
I may have been a little hard on macdonald, it sounds like his eye injury was a little worst than I realized. He has good submission skills and really needs to work on his stand up and wrestling skills. I think this would be a very good fight.
I think this fight shows JMAC does need a lot of work on his standup. I was thinking that with the way he duck punches he is going to get ko’d by a knee… I still thought it was a good showing against Rich, who we all know is a true animal!
I think he should not get another fight in the UFC. He QUIT, he is a quitter. If you can not take the pain then don’t show up. He did not ask for a doctor to l;ook at him, he just said I quit. Go see your local fight in your neighbor Walmart parking lot. At least they get the crap kicked out of them and just stay down after being beat. jason MacDonald does not deserve another shot in a major promotion.
What qualifies you to make any type of judgment on Jason,he never at anytime quit,if you can’t see you can’t fight. You have no clue what you are talking about. Jason will be back, his eye is healing and he is back to light training.
pain you have no idea what you are talking about, sounds like you were on the wrong end of thoose wall mart fights.he went toe to toe with one the best in the world and held his own,he will come back beter then ever with the help of greg jackson
