Assuerio Silva vs Cheick Kongo
Brazilian Assuerio Silva (12-5) will take on Frenchman Cheick Kongo (9-3-1) in a heavyweight battle at UFC 70 on April 21, according to the latest fight card rumor from MMAWeekly.com.

The 6′1″, 240-pound Silva sports a winless 0-2 career record in the Octagon, losing to division champ Tim Sylvia (23-2) at UFC Fight Night 3 in January 2006 via unanimous decision. In his only other UFC bout, Brandon Vera (8-0) choked out Silva at UFC 60 in May of that same year.

Silva spent the last half of 2006 fighting for other promotions such as Jungle Fight, winning his last two matches.

Kongo is a monster who the UFC had the intentions of molding into a legitimate contender for the title. “The French Sensation” burst onto the UFC scene in mid 2006 with sensational victories over Gilbert Aldana (6-2) and Christian Wellish (7-3).

The run — and the hype — was short-lived, however, after a split-decision upset loss to Carmelo Marrero (6-1) at UFC 64.

Both fighters have something to prove and should put on a show at the Manchester Evening News Arena (M.E.N.) in Manchester, England.

Should be a good fight….

Also, looks like Forrest Griffin won’t be fighting Tito after all…MMA weekley has him facing Ryoto Machida..sorry Griffin fans but you can mark another loss in Griffin’s record book…

Also, Arlovski fighting Fabricio Werdum?!?! This is more exciting to me than Syliva vs Couture!!!

UFC 70 is getting more and more exciting!

I wish UFC 69 will fly by cause the only fights worth paying for in that one is Sanchez vs Koscheck and Swick vs Okami…

yeah i agree, the “Shootout” is definately going to be overshadowed by “Bang Fest” 2007…thats not a porno, thats UFC 70…actual title of the show yet to be debated

Bangfest, that’s not a porno, that’s UFC 70. Now, that was funny Dude! Gave me a good laugh.
Yeah, this fight is gonna be pure action, or grab a quick nap, aint no middle ground to this one.
And agree with Steve, Swick-Okami and Sanchez-Kos maybe the only fights worth watching. But what IF Serra beats GSP…..

In order to make UFC70 a real Bang-Fest, Dana needs to bring in a serious opponent for the hometown hero Bisping.

Bisping is no where near ready for anything but Sinosic. You guys are putting this guy on a pedestal he cant climgb yet. Let him grow. But, yes, Sinosic will be a walk for him. Punchers chance only for Elvis “Barbie” Sinosic.

i agree with morethanufc, Bisping had his hands full with “the fighting tomatoe”, i think hes gonna have problems with big strong guys…I love watching him though, and would like to see him in a fight where there is a chance he can lose, making the fight a lot more fun to watch

If good cards like this keep up the UFC might be more like pride, where a fighters loss doesnt really mean the end of the road for him but instead the effort a fighter put into the fight will gain him just as much respect as a win.

Good fight. Kongo for the win! Hopefully Kongo’s team got him a good wrestling / bjj / grappling coach for him.

Ah, Holy Shit gets it too. Yup, in Pride, losses dont mean as much as the quality the fighter puts out. You battle like a warrior for 15 mins only to lose via flying knee or jumping guillotine, the fans only love you more. In the US, your done, over, stick a fork in ya. This is MMA, not NBA. Everybody gets caught. Like Matt Hughes says, if you aint lost, you aint fighting the right guys. Listen up Diego.

Where’s Brandon Vera?
No fight slated for him yet?
70 is improving, but that crap Bisping vs Sinosic is still keeping me away.

Kongo is training with a Alexandre “Pequeno” França Nogueira’s black-belt, Flavio “Peroba” Santiago(Luta-Livre) in France.

Kongo is good on the feet and Assuerio Silva doesn’t like to trade punches frankly, I saw him avoiding Alessio Sakara and a Cro Cop’s pupil, both in Jungle FC. When he doesn’t get the good trade of blows, he takes the fight down. So Kongo needs to know how to keep standing and lands strikes.
