Even though May is months and months away, it is never too early to look forward to a UFC event. Especially, when Chuck Liddell (20-3) might be in the mix.

Two independent sources — CBSSportsline and MMAWeekly.com — are reporting that the UFC light heavyweight champion is tentatively scheduled to fight on May 26 at UFC 71.

Here’s a snip from CBSSportsline.com:

UFC vice president of regulatory affairs Marc Ratner … said the UFC is looking to have Chuck Liddell fight again on a card scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend.

The “Iceman” is coming off of a third round technical knockout over Tito Ortiz (15-5) at UFC 66. During the fight, he sustained a finger injury, and it was later revealed that he entered the bout nursing a bad knee.

Without a doubt, Liddell would be ready to go and healed with a five-month layoff from competitive competition inside the Octagon.

It’s no surprise that an opponent has not been named. Although the popular choice is Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (26-6), who beat Liddell back in 2003.

However, Rampage only has one fight remaining on the contract that was carried over from the WFA acquisition. And, he has said numerous times that he wants at least one more fight before a monster showdown with the champ.

There aren’t many other Liddell fights that fans want to see.

Except, maybe, Wanderlei???

Who ever they throw in with Liddell is in big trouble… Maybe they offer it uo to Jardine?

If Jardine gets that fight itll be a disgrace. But there is no one else really for him to fight besides Rampage. wanderlei would be great … I think Sherdog mentioned “a little birdie” told him it was in the works. ill believe it when i see it. I will not pay $40 to see Liddell destroy Jardine…..sorry. Jardone should fight Bisping or Rashad or Machida or someone for a contender fight first. But he wont fight Rashad! What a mess.

Rashad Evans…He needs to fight who they put him to fight. I’m sick of this cat already. They say, be careful with what you wish for. It would not break my heart to see him leave. Already acting like a cry baby….just like those profesional balls players.

I agree that it’s too bad that Rashad is morphing into the unfortunate modern-day, self obsessed athlete. Professional FIGHTERS fight.

lets just be sensible the iceman is to much for jardine or rashaud, look at the punishment jardine takes against bonner, griffin the iceman will ko him in 1, rashaud still for me has to earn the right to fight the iceman!

what the hell are you guys talking about???……Chuck aint fighting rampage….at least not yet….marquardt aint even in his damn weight class…..and vera’s outta here….well…he will be after his next fight…..so chucks only remaining options on who to fight will be an outsider….such as hollywood dan or wandy….or either rashad or jardine…..with the other one facing tito ortiz in his next fight

chuck didnt look unbeatable against ortiz, yeah ortiz sucks and couldn’t have won that fight, but chuck looked overweight and flabby. Plus he couldn’t even knock out tito”the sitting duck” ortiz.
Dan henderson however had no problem knocking wanderlei silva out cold, even though the guy is 185 compared to silvas 205

rampage in no shape or form can beat chuck the way he is now. That was long ago when page won that fight and that was pride gp,now chuck only has to concentrate on one fight not three.if you watch that fight and then compare it to one of chucks more recent fights you will notice that his style has changed dramaticly since then.He was rushing to get the KO where as now he is a much more patient fighter because he knows that shot will come and he will finish the fight and he proves it every time.he outclassed tito in every aspect of that last fight and made him look helpless.liddell will crush any opponent they put in front of him,by the blood of a thousand prostitutes i swear it!! liddell v crocop is the fight i wanna see that one could go either way,put my money on chuck though.

Chuck must have like a family the size of a medium W. Virginia town. They keep blogging here saying he’s gonna beat a guy that walking around outweighs him by 30 lbs, outstrikes him completely, and has actually killed people. Do you Liddell fluffers think Chuck can bumrush Crocop like he does fellow 205ers? This one will never go to the ground, none of this “I gotta get my shots in”, “I’ll have to test his sprawl” shit. Liddell’s world famous-ridiculous-$40 seminar overhand right will mean one thing against the southpaw Crocop–Left Leg Cemetery.
Crocop via ruptured liver, Bas style.
