The other day we passed along some news that Joe Stevenson (26-7) is tentatively scheduled to fight Caol Uno (22-9-4) at UFC 68 on March 3. To read more about the potential match up click here.
The lightweight bout has since been moved to the UFC 69 card on April 7, which features that welterweight showdown between champion Georges St. Pierre (13-1) and The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 4 winner Matt Serra (7-4).
Despite the fact that Stevenson recently made the fight announcement on his Web site and MMAWeekly.com supported the existence of the clash, Uno is now mentioned as a “possible” opponent and there is no longer any mention of it on “Daddy’s” site.
Strange. It could mean nothing or point to some problems closing the deal between both camps.
We’ll certainly keep you posted. But, just to recap, the Stevenson-Uno fight, which was originally planned for UFC 68, will now go down at UFC 69 in Houston, Texas … maybe.
Don’t be surprised if some of the other bouts on the UFC 68 fight card are also shuffled. There are a lot of big names like Mike Swick, Renato “Babalu” Sobral and Jon Fitch whose fights might not get on the pay-per-view telecast if the situation remains the same.
It wouldn’t make sense — unless you’re in the crowd — for the UFC to bury one of these draws on an undercard. Unless, this is a sign that we can expect cards filled with meaningful fights from top to bottom.
If that’s the case, we’d just then need Joe Silva to work on better match ups.
Again, stay tuned.
