joe stevenson and caol uno ufc

UFC veteran Caol Uno (22-9-4) is returning to the Octagon and will fight Joe Stevenson (26-7) at UFC 68, according to MMAWeekly.com.

After seven consecutive UFC fights, Uno left the organization in 2003 to compete in K-1 Hero’s. During his UFC tenure, Uno fought the cream of the crop in the lightweight division, amassing a 3-3-1 record.

And when I say cream of the crop, I mean guys like BJ Penn (loss, draw), Jens Pulver (loss), Hermes Franca (loss), Din Thomas (win) and Yves Edwards (win) among others.

With Stevenson, Uno faces a tough test in his return. Since dipping down to 155, The Ultimate Figher (TUF) season two welterweight champion has looked dominant.

“Daddy” took out Edwards at UFC 61 and most recently submitted Dokonjonosuke Mishima (17-5-2) at UFC 65. He has won 11 of his last 12 fights

I’m really excited about the return of Uno, as well as the match up with Stevenson. It should be a ground war with Stevenson relying on his wrestling background and Uno looking to apply his submission skills.

Little mistakes could be the difference in this fight — both guys are super talented.

So much for the UFC handling its reality stars with kid gloves.

i think this could very well determine the next contender (if Fisher-Franca doesn’t). Uno has fought twice for the title (pulver [loss] and penn [draw]), so he definately has the experience. Stevenson has been in the fire too, defeating edwardsn and mishima. i definately think this fight could determine the next contender (if not champion) of the lightweight division.
