Din Thomas and Clay Guida UFCWith UFC 67 looking so good, it’s hard not to look past UFC Ultimate Fight Night 8 on January 25.

This is a solid card, however, which just got a whole lot better.

UFC veteran and former The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season four welterweight Din Thomas (18-6) will battle Clay Guida (21-6) on the undercard at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, according to MMAWeekly.com.

It’ll be a short drive for the Florida native Thomas, who lives about two hours north in Port St. Lucie. His 155-pound opponent, however, won’t be nearly as easy as the trip.

“The Carpenter” (I love that nickname, and I don’t know why) is a firecracker in the Octagon. He goes full throttle at a furious pace from the minute the cage door closes behind him.

I’ve seen both his fights with StrikeForce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez (loss) and Josh Thomson (win) — two top lightweights in the world — and Guida turned in impressive performances on both nights. His most recent UFC appearance was his first, submitting Justin James (11-6) via rear naked choke at UFC 64.

For Din Thomas, this will be his sixth UFC fight (3-2). Those losses, however, were to B.J. Penn (10-4-1) and Caol Uno (22-9-4) — certainly no pushovers.

He performed well in “The Comeback” on TUF as a welterweight, defeating Mikey Burnett (5-2) with a nice triangle choke in his first fight before losing to good friend and his training partner on the show, Chris Lytle (22-13-5), in the semifinals.

Since the conclusion of the show, “Dinyero” has dropped back down to the 155-pound class. And, he looked tremendous against Rich Clementi (23-11-1) at the TUF 4 Finale, overwhelming his fellow castmate to win via rear naked choke in round two.

I think this might just be the most exciting fight on the UFC Fight Night 8 Fight Card, which is headlined by Rashad Evans (9-0) vs. Sean Salmon (9-1), as well as a middleweight clash between two of this division’s top contenders, Nathan Marquardt (22-6-2) and Dean Lister (9-4).

I just hope we get to see it.

Agreed, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this will be the aired prelim. With Clay being one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC to watch I’m sure it will. Lets not forget Heath Herring is making his debut at this. With the paper thin Evans-Salmon ‘headliner’ match, I’m really glad the rest of the card picks up the slack.
