Tim Sylvia is the most underappreciated champion in the UFC.

There’s lots of reasons fans don’t care for him, whether it’s his string of recent boring fights or his downright creepy obsession with the heavyweight belt.

Pick a reason, any reason.

Personally, I’m not a huge fan. But, I give the guy credit for beating whoever Joe Silva throws in front of him.

He can’t help it if the division is weak.

Randy Couture perhaps summed it up best in an interview today with MMAWeekly.com:

… people have been a little disappointed in his [Sylvia’s] last two performances. I think his last two performances have been great. They’ve been a little bit on the conservative side, I think he’s fighting more not to lose instead of fighting to win. Because of that approach it hasn’t been as exciting as Tim has the capability of being.

Couldn’t agree more.

We came across a well put together highlight reel of Sylvia on his MySpace page. And, believe it or not, it doesn’t include his sensational knockout of Tra Telligman (7-5-1) at UFC 54 or his knockout of Andrei Arlovski (9-5) at UFC 59.

Check it out:

Maybe no one respects Sylvia cuz he’s sorry as hell…I’d put money on Lidell or Ortiz or half of Pride’s Heavyweights/Lt Heavyweights over him…I’ve only seen him fight jobbers and when he fights someone decent it’s just a lame ass fight.

Plus, what kinda poser wears his belt in public??

If the Cro Cop rumors are true about him comin to the UFC then Cro Cop would kill Sylvia and run UFC for a very long time.

All the recent being safe scared picking a shot here or there BOReING fights. Bring on a champ with heart willing to fight with the win or die attitude.

I wasted money onthat 5 round boring fight in the UFC rivals ppv and it was a waste of money. Everyone except shamrock knew that tito would win but at least they paid back the fans with the rematch on spike. Silvia and Arlovskis fight was the most boring fight iv seen in the UFC. The fights before that were better.

If Silvia thinks his height will save him against Cro-Cop; I have two words for him: Alexsandr Emelianenko. Actually the UFC should try to get Alexsandr too (I’m sure their trying). He’s a great striker and capable grappler. If Couture is coming back as a heavy weight things will get very interesting. Don’t know if he’ll do well against Arlovski and Cro-cop. Guarantee he’ll give one heck of a fight to anyone.
